Sgt Rust entered the United States Army on May 30, 2002. He attended Basic Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma from 6/5/2002 to 8/12/2002. He attended Advanced Individual Training for Avenger crew members at Fort Bliss, TX from 8/13/2002 through 10/29/2002.
Sgt Rust was initially assigned to 2d Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Polk, LA as an Avenger crew member on 11/4/2002. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 4/22/2003 to 11/22/2004 and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal.
Sgt Rust remains found in hay field near the town of Hounsfield within sight of water tank.
