2014 - 3rd robot project, FRC team #971 Spartan Robotics
2014 FRC Season, Spartan Robotics team #971. //.
After formal competition season ends, the students design and build a "3rd robot" then compete with it in a tournament. They re-use a drive base from a previous season, and design a totally new upper structure to manipulate game pieces. With less time pressure than the main season, this "off-season" project is totally self-directed by the students and provides a tremendous learning opportunity for both experienced and new members who want to get more out of the program. The students develop and hone their skills in leadership, strategy, prototyping, CAD, fabrication, programming, assembly, debugging issues, robot maintenance/repair, and cooperating/competing with partner teams in a tournament.
