Here is my first drawing. I was thinking I might do a horizontal piece, then I got the idea that that guy on the right might stand higher on a hill and the piece could be vertical.
So I did a drawing trying out that idea and liked it, so I notaned the drawing.
This is my underpainting. Once again I chose a value 6 dioxazine purple for the shadow side and this time I used a value 2 dioxazine + alizarin crimson for the light side.
I began the background trees, intending to do the grass in shadow when I realized I needed to define the cow on the hill before I could make the shadow and light on the grass make sense. So, I blocked in her darks.
Then I completed massing in her colors.
Then I massed in the shadow side of the pasture.
Then added the transition between the shadow and light of the pasture.
Next, I massed in the lights of the pasture.
Here I've massed in the darks of the sienna part ot the cows.
Then the darks of their white fur, then the transitions from dark to light, then the lights.
Next the details and a bit of tweaking here and there and we have it. "Perpetual Lunch"
