Burundi is beautiful country with stunningly beautiful people, dancers and drumming....a country which also went through a parallel period of conflict and genocide to rwanda... The results of this trip, meeting the president and understanding the people their hopes and dreams Burundi has come a long way from 1994...
Countries we visit like this are always special because the sincere joy of the people is felt seen and heard more than perhaps more seemingly developed countries. I wandered the stadium meeting young children, and families excited about the possibilities for their future. I found an exceptional amount of people donning obama clothing, necklaces, backpacks and pins... Many of them said that the past year has been the greatest of their lives because Obama gave them hope and the FIFA World Cup two folded that hope...
