A Photographic Journey
Avner's photographic journey began as an eight year old with a Kodak Instamatic camera in Jerusalem. Some thousands of photographs later (and a few years!), his journey has taken him to the edge of high tech editing in Sydney. From thousands of photographs taken over the last eight years in Australia and New Zealand, Avner has selected 48, there are 12 panels and four triptychs, all variations on a theme. The works range across Sydney, the Snowy Mountains, Outback Australia and New Zealand.
Avner combines the old with the new by using only photographic film in his camera but then scanning the photographs onto a CD for digital editing. “I still use good old fashioned film,” says Avner, “ because I just can’t get the quality of the images I want with a digital camera. Once I’ve got the quality then I’m quite happy to edit on the computer. The software packages around today make the creative process almost unlimited.”
