Happy Birthday, Ingrid Johnsen :'-)

Darling Ingrid, on this most glorious occasions, I wish you the happiest of birthdays. Whether it is in Tromso, Norway, or in Honolulu or Mililani, Hawaii, your charm, uniqueness, and intelligence are remembered and appreciated. 'Atlas Shrugged' Sighting in 'The Pagemaster'

*The Pagemaster* was a 1994 animated Dreamworks movie geared to compete against Disney, featuring the voices of Macaulay Culkin, Whoopi Goldberg, Patrick Stewart, and Christopher Lloyd. It wasn't up to the same quality as Disney, unfortunately. What I do love, however, is the clever cameo appearance by *Atlas Shrugged* in the movie, as seen here. Interestingly, Michael Paxton -- who made the excellent 1997 documentary *Ayn Rand: A Sense of Life* -- worked on *The Pagemaster*. That might be the connection.

Ingrid L. Johnsen, et al., With Stuart Hayashi on Sep. 17, 2010

Ingrid L. Johnsen, the treat from Tromso -- now with hair dyed black -- returned to Oahu in September in time for the first Reason Club meeting of the semester hosted by Stuart K. Hayashi. The topic was that of "moral panics." This involves an activist proclaiming that some social problem exists and can only be solved by a government initiative controlled by that same social activist. Also present were Ryan Barnett, Kenli, and a Dane named Christian. These photos were taken by Prof. Ken Schoolland. We hoped for more attendees. Stuart began the meeting, "I would like to thank everyone here today for coming and joining this big crowd..." Ingrid L. Johnsen giggled delightfully. :'-)

On Sunday, May 16, 2010, free-market advocates had a formal meeting and then a party at Prof. Schoolland's. Present were Li, the enchanting Ingrid L. Johnsen -- now of SIFE HPU (sifehpu) fame -- and Stuart Hayashi. After the official party ended, we stayed and relaxed. :'-)

On Thursday, May 13, 2010, Ingrid L. Johnsen -- now of SIFE HPU (sifehpu) fame -- was selling tickets for the MBA Club's End-of-the-Year Celebration. She made sure that the Reason club was a co-sponsor. Stuart Hayashi decided to join her. Ingrid did all the work selling the tickets. Stuart sat there and looked pretty. ^_^

On Wednesday, May 12, 2010, Ingrid L. Johnsen was hard at work at BambuTwo, writing her essays for Prof. Ken Schoolland's "History of Economic Thought" class. She was getting a bit lonely, and asked Stuart Hayashi to join her there. These are the photos he (I, really), took of her that day. Ingrid L. Johnsen: Day of the Economics Debate

On Tuesday, May 4, 2010, Prof. Schoolland's "History of Economic Thought" class hosted a debate. Ingrid L. Johnsen, daring as always, made a very satirical presentation. Not everyone was amused; it caused a great furor among some. Ingrid, always sensitive to others, explained it was not her intention to hurt anyone. Afterward, we went to Zippy's to further discuss this; that is where and when the picture was taken. Ingrid's spirits were lifted; she is a powerful force. :'-)

A Discussion of Presidential Proportions

On Sunday night, April 18, 2010, we had an intellectual gathering at Prof. Schoolland's place to discuss the best and worst U.S. presidents in history. On Friday, April 16, 2010, civil engineer Panos Prevedouros gave a presentation to the Reason Club of Honolulu about the unfeasible nature of the city's proposed fixed rail system. Ingrid L. Johnsen -- now of SIFE HPU (sifehpu) fame -- and Stuart Hayashsi had a great time meeting him. Afterward, the evening continued beautifully. :'-)

Honolulu Tea Party 2010

On April 15, 2010, darling Ingrid L. Johnsen -- now of SIFE HPU (sifehpu) fame -- along with magnificent Makena Dyer and Wayne accompanied Stuart K. Hayashi to the Hawaii State Capitol at the Honolulu Tax Day Tea Party rally. There, Stuart gave a two-minute speech for fiscal responsibility and deregulation. Then we had an enjoyable time at Zippy's, where Stuart showed off his favorite magazine. It was magical. :'-)

After the 'Social Darwinism' Presentation

Tuesday, April 13, 2010, was the anniversary of two events. First, it was Thomas Jefferson's birthday. And it was the fifth anniversary of Stuart's legendary debate for the HPU Reason Club on the issue of open immigration. Stuart took the position that for someone to enter the USA without a visa was, by itself, a justified form of civil disobedience. On this particular April 13, another memorable event occurred. Stuart gave a presentation to Prof. Schoolland's "History of Economic Thought" class in which Stuart explained that there actually was no self-identified, unified "social Darwinism" movement in the nineteenth century. Nor did the free-market evolutionists Herbert Spencer and William Graham Sumner -- who observed that free economies are ecosystems -- have a genuine ideological link with the big-government eugenics movement. After that session was over, Stuart, darling Ingrid L. Johnsen, and Prof. Schoolland talked about it at bambuTwo. It was a glorious day. :'-)

Mon., Apr. 5, 2010 -- Darling Ingrid looking very serious and grave, as usual. . . . or maybe I was being even more obnoxious than usual that day. :'-) As you can see, she's so tall that you can't even see her face when you look at the thumbnail of the cropped versions. You're basically getting the view I get when I stand next to her. ^_^

On Saturday, March 20, 2010, darling Ingrid L. Johnsen and I went to Prof. Schoolland's home along with Max and Jazmin for a night of movies. Ingrid had us watch her *Inglourious Basterds* DVD, though the rest of us were really not in the mood for it. Hehe. ^_^ Then we had rousing games of Foosball. It was a memorable night. :'-)

Ingrid L. Johnsen and the Reason Club Discuss Genetic Engineering

Friday, March 19, 2010, marked the beginning of a weekend that would change the lives of Stuart Hayashi and Ingrid L. Johnsen -- now of SIFE HPU (sifehpu) fame. At the Reason Club meeting, the topic was that of the ethics of people voluntarily genetically enhancing their own children to be healthier. Then Ingrid Johnsen, Wayne Adams, and Stuart Hayashi visited Prof. Schoolland's home. The eventful weekend -- which was at the beginning of Spring Break -- was off to a great start. :'-)

Reason Club Discusses 'Creative Destruction'

At this Reason Club meeting, we discussed Joseph Schumpeter's theory of Creative Destruction. The query was over whether there should be laws to prevent people from losing their jobs as a result of free-market conditions. Free-market, cost-cutting innovations that can remove people from employment are: 1. Competition from foreign laborers. 2. Competition from low-wage immigrants. 3. Technological improvement. 4. Corporate restructuring that leads to downsizing. Among the attendees was Ingrid Johnsen, the treat from Tromso, the darling of Students In Free Enterprise at Hawaii Pacific University (SIFE HPU, sifehpu). :'-) Meghan brought the food, drink, and cookies. :-) Vika is the one who took these photos and sent them to me. In honor of her, I will create a smiley face with lots of mouths. :-)))))))))))))))))))))))))))
