20110903 Mt Imlay National Park
We walked from the picnic ground at the base of Mt Imlay (280m elevation) to the summit (886m elevation). It was a really hard, steep walk for much of the way, with stunning views, forest abounding in magnificent wildflowers and sweet fragrances, songs of a lyrebird, currawongs and many other birdlife. The Mt Imlay Boronia (Boronia imlayensis) is only found along the ridge of this mountain. It was just coming into bloom and offered a few pleasing photo opportunities for my camera. A highly recommended walk for the intrepid bushwalker. Take plenty of water, lunch for the top, a snack to keep you going, sturdy boots and a keen sense of adventure. I'd advise applying mosquito repellent at the start and be sure to apply sun screen as necessary. The weather was about 20 C and sunny on the day we did this walk. It was perfect at the top, cloud-free and blue skies in all directions. It took us about 2 hours up and a similar time down, allowing for photo stops and recovery breaks.
