The Oval Plaza in Jerash, one of the best preserved Roman cities in the world (as impressive as Pompeii...)
The South Theater was built in 90 AD and is one of the only ruins that still has the stage and backdrop in tact.
In addition to Roman ruins, there are exquisite Byzantine mosaics
The Temple of Artemis, with its huge limestone columns
Amazingly, they were built to sway, just like today's skyscrapers...if you put a spoon in the base, you can actually see the spoon moving up and down as the column sways back and forth
In the Oval Plaza, you can see where the city was expanded in later years by the change in the size and layout of the bricks.
Christmas Day, we visited Mount Nebo...
...where Moses first saw The Promised Land that God had forbidden him to set foot in
On a clear day, you can see all the way to Bethlehem (fitting for a Christmas excursion)...
Unfortunately, our day was not so clear.
The Moses Memorial Church at Mount Nebo
The inside of the Moses Memorial Church...
...which contains exquisite Mosaics, this one completed in 531 A.D., but rediscovered only in 1976.
The Byzantine mosaic map of the Holy Land in St. George's Church in Madaba
The impressive mosaic floor (767 A.D) in the Church of the Virgin in the Archaelogical Park in Madaba
Wadi Mujib, dubbed as "Jordan's Grand Canyon"
Kimberly & James and their Dad, Robert at Wadi Mujib
The Karak castle, which Christian Crusaders used as a fortress from 1142 A.D.
Inside the Karak castle, the ceilings were very impressive
Reamains of other vaulted ceilings of the castle
Dan and James shivering in the snow...
...yes, you heard right. Snow, in Jordan!
