We rented an apartment in Camps Bay, with the ocean on one side and the stunning "Twelve Apostles" in the background.
The view of Signal Hill as we ascended Table Mountian in the cable car
The view of Camps Bay from the top of Table Mountain. (Note the big green patch just below the beach...that's a rugby field...probably the most expensive in the world!

They're not kidding...while we were in Cape Town, a life guard lost his leg to a Great White Shark during a training exercise!

Kimberly dressed in her funny hat at Tizi Meloul (they come around and give everyone funny hats in the middle of dinner).
The view of the Stellenbosch countryside from Paarl
The Afrikaans Language Monument in Paarl
The height of the monument supposedly was to indicate the superiority of this (dying) language over all other languages in the world...
The Kayamandi township, near Stellenbosch
The house on the left is what every person in the township is entitled to receive from the government. The house on the right shows what the finished product will look like, but the resident must build the walls himself.
We met Lily, who showed us great hospitality in her home, and shared with us an amazing life story of overcoming obstacles and persevering against all odds.
Lily's granddaughter really liked Dan!
We watched a performance by the Masakhane dance troup at the Ikamva lethu centre
The girls danced their hearts out...
...we videotaped this performance to send to England as part of a cultural exchange
Luyanda was an impressive drummer and chanter!
....and quite a good dance teacher too!
Kimberly's cheerleading experience helped her to pick up the routine fast!
It was hard work!
And yes Daniel had to dance too!
Luyanda kept yelling at him, "Men must not smile!"
...but it's hard for Dan...so look at the funny expression on his face as he tries to look serious!
People started returning from work around 5pm, and the township came to life.
We went into a woman's house, and at least 30 kids followed us inside! They didn't live there, didn't ask if they could come in, they just all came inside and sat down!
It was Nosandile's house. She and Moses will probably get married sometime soon. They both lost their spouses recently.
The children sang the South African National Anthem for us.
And, of course, the kids loved Dan!
Kids posing for the camera
More kids wanted their photos taken...
..and then swarmed around Dan to see the image in the camera LCD screen
...climbing, pushing, and shoving...
Take my photo!
Take Mine!
Little kids came running towards the van when we pulled up! Apparently they always get plastic bags to collect trash around the township...and each receive an apple if they bring a full bag of trash back.
Daniel hands an apple to a little boy who brought back a trash bag
"Where's my apple?...I want an apple!"
We attended an evening church service where everyone was singing, clapping, and waving their hands around in the air...it was very lively!
We left well after dark...such an incredible way to spend a day!
Penguins at Boulders Beach
Lone penguin with Kalk Bay in the background
Silly penguin!
We were walking down a path, when all of a sudden a huge flock of penguins came around the corner...and waddled right past us!
There were thousands of penguins...
Kimberly thought this sign was amusing...
Buffelsbai beach, in Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve
Bartholomew Diaz Cross, Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, put up so sailors would know that False Bay was not the Atlantic Ocean...and to go around Cape Point...otherwise, they would join the many who had shipwrecked on the coast here.

The coastline in the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve
The whale's fluke splashes in the water as he dives deep
The whale was only a few hundred meters off the coast!
A family of baboons on the side of the road
We returned to the parking lot to find an angry baboon had announced his presence, while the crowd of scared tourists looked on...
...some tourists were trapped in their cars while the baboon was jumping from the roof of one car to another!
Even the rangers couldn't persuade the baboon to leave! It was quite scary...especially when the baboon hopscotched on the roofs of the silver and red car and started running right at me!
Kimberly all bundled up at Cape Point

Nelson Mandela's cell in the prison on Robben Island
The limestone quarry where much of the teaching and training happened between inmates...and where Nelson Mandela lost much of his vision, due to the reflection of the light off the limestone.
