ACBS July 2011 Show

This year's exhibition featured some remarkable projects from club members. Many of the tree projects were developed from discarded shrubbery and nursery stock. We had good member participation this year with a variety of species and styles. It is remarkable to compare some of these trees to how they appeared in earlier shows. Indeed some have reached the level of specimen trees.

Jeff Carr's Extreme Bending Demo

At the September ACBS meeting, Jeff Carr of Staselwood Bonsai in Newark, Ohio showed techniques for creating interesting bends in otherwise straight and uninteresting pre-bonsai. This was a very cool demonstration using such material as Petflex, a sticky stretch bandage material, in place of raffia along with copper wire. Jeff used a bending tool to gradually work the tree into position. This demo also was an example of how you might open your thinking and visualize different possibilities when styling a bonsai.

August 2010 ACBS Show

This years August show was set in a smaller location than in past years. Still, the gallery-like arrangement of the room provided an intimate setting, and the neutral background of white walls helped highlight the trees. Several members at all skill levels participated, and the show was well attended throughout the weekend.

June 2010 Akron Canton Bonsai Society Show

This year's June show featured pines and junipers. Several club members brought pine projects that we have focused on in recent meetings. Many of the trees are developing nicely, and the participation by a good number of club members was appreciated.

Craig Coussins Demo

The Akron Canton Bonsai Society was pleased to host internationally known bonsai expert and author Craig Coussins. Mr. Coussins collaborated with ACBS members on some of their own trees and projects at our regular Thursday night meeting. In addition Mr. Coussins presented a public demonstrations the following evening where he styled a garden juniper into a cascade style bonsai. As always, he spiced the demonstrations with many colorful stories and anecdotes along with offering a welter of useful tips and information for the bonsai enthusiast. Much thanks to Mr. Coussins for sharing his expertise with us.

August 2009 Akron Canton Bonsai Society Show

The Akron Canton Bonsai Society exhibited trees from several of its members at the well attended North Canton Street Festival. It was good to see members at all skill levels participating in the show. There were trees in many styles, including upright, literati, forest, broom style and cascades. Tropical and hardy species were both represented. Tree Portraits

These "tree portraits" were a fun project that ACBS did at it August show. Gib, who is our terrific V.P., brought in his very serious photography equipment--umbrellas and all--, played with the lighting to capture these great shots of some of our members' trees. Wallet sizes, anyone?? :)

ACBS Picnic 2009

ACBS displays at Komono Museum Exhibit

The Akron-Canton Bonsai Society presented two exhibits during the acclaimed "Komono as Art" exhibition at the Canton Museum of Art in Ohio on April 25th and March 8th, 2009. The Exhibits featured several members' trees and also demonstrations on how a bonsai might be created from nursery stock. The ACBS display was part of an arts festival Komono. Fall Bonsai Show (virtual)

The fall colors of maple, ginko and other deciduous bonsai can be a real joy. As our club generally has its shows in summer, we are creating here an internet show of our trees in their fall colors. August 2008 ACBS Show

June 2008 Akron Canton Bonsai Show

As has come to be a tradition, this year's June show featured some fine azaleas in full bloom. There were also many good examples of maples, boxwoods, pines, hornbeams, tropicals and other varieties of bonsai and accent plants. In addition, club members shared their own colorful ikebana arrangements, viewing stones in uniquely carved stands and a few fine hand made pots. A good number of newer ACBS members participated in the show and exhibited trees.

ACBS-- Club meetings, workshops & Demos

The Akron-Canton Bonsai Society meets on the first Thursday of every month at 7:00 at the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center, 2131 Front St. (on Front Street Mall) Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Club meetings feature programs on a variey of bonsai related topics, tree workshops, and demonstations by club members & other notable bonsai artists. Please join us & learn about this fascinating and ancient art form.

June 2007 Akron Canton Bonsai Society Show

These are photographs of ACBS members' trees exhibited at our June 2007 show. We had trees from more than 20 club members represented. It was a well-attended show with much color and many species and styles of bonsai on display.

2007 North Canton Bonsa Show

These are photographs of an August 2007 exhibit by Akron-Canton Bonsai Society members. Several skill levels represented from beginner to experience. Both tropical and hardy trees are present, as well collected trees and those made from nursery stock. There are also a number of such classic styles as twisted trunk and cascade, some fine examples of ikebana (the Japanese art of flower arranging) and some viewing stones in hand-carved bases.
