St. John's Ravenscourt Cameron Cadets
The amalgamation between St. John’s College School (1913-1950) and Ravenscourt School (1940-1947) led to their two Cadet Corps becoming the St. John’s-Ravenscourt Cadet Corps (No. 538). It was affiliated with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders out of respect for the former Headmaster of Ravenscourt School, Capt. Norman Young, KIA. The training programme was similar to that at SJCS and Ravenscourt. Additions to training included boxing, judo, karate, Bren Gun, Commando Course competitions, and Cameron history. During the summer months further training was offered at Shilo, Dundurn, and Vernon.
In the 1964-1965 year there was a lack of interest on the part of the students. The Corps was dissolved ending a proud tradition.
This is an abbreviated version of the history of the Ravenscourt Cadet Corps, but the full history is available upon request. It was provided by Maj. (Ret'd.) Frederick Carsted, a teacher at St. John's Ravenscourt and a former Cameron Highlander himself.
