When Ryanair CEO's horse came second in the Cheltenham race, he was so happy that he started to sell ticket on some routes for 1p including taxes! We took advantage of this offer and bought two return tickets for 4p:)
We prefer Easy Jet, but 4p... They have to understand...
Anyway, we bought tickets...
and flew to...
Belfast, Northern Ireland.
we started with a full Irish breakfast...
in a nice bar full of middle aged locals who come there for breakfast and spent next two hours gossiping
we also spent there almost an hour but it's just because we couldn't move after this breakfast....
anyway, we didn't eat anything else that day
we were lucky enough to come across one of the old school police cars. they are very rare these days
then St. George's market
selling seafood and other food
nice spot to hang out, jazz group playing on the Saturday morning, not that usual, he?
but wee buns????
time for sightseeing
Dams on the river. These are supposed to be replicas of London dams. Yeah, sure...
Belfast is the birthplace of Titanic
Also most of the city centre is alcohol free
Samson and Goliath - Belfast landmarks. Yes, cranes... Anyway, Belfast had (1902) the biggest dry dock in the world, which could contain about six ships. These cranes were used to move the parts for them around. They are not in use anymore though and were supposed to be demolished, but they stayed and became the city landmarks. They are really huge...
And they have Holywood in Belfast.
Parliament is quite a long way from the city centre, quite unusual I believe.
Nice area
with a statue
Big companies have started to invest in Belfast lately and a lot of new buildings is being built
No idea...
Another 'no idea'. Silver something coming out from the churche's roof.
One of my favourite churches
And the second one. Not in use though and green stuff is growing out of it
Court house. Not in use as you can see and quite hated by the locals as during the conflict people were trialed here
The prison was just on the other side of the street and there was a tunnel below the street. So once people entered the court, they could've be taken to the prison right away.
Time for wall murals
There's really a lot of them
in more dodgy areas...
the neighbourhood looks very peacful
but their local police station looks quite hard core...
cameras everywhere
the paint is quite fresh
I guess they paint new ones from time to time
Architecture
beauty queen;)
wall murals
And one more
they do remember
Now a different kind of wall murals
Peace murals
Cuba
Basque country on the right, taxi ad on the left....
But this one is pretty good
Irish teenagers. Training suits on every corner....
Window blinds...
Less commercial wall murals
Wall murals
Rememberance place
Hunger strikes Bobby. The most photographed wall mural
Next to Sinn Fein siege
But life is coming back into this area...;)
As Northern Ireland is invincible (even though it doesn't look like that around this place...)
Local pubs
Churches
Belfast is surrounded by hills
and churches
nice colours
again nice colours
me and Pawel :)
university
The ugliest building in the city centre. Even though the area was heavy bombed during the conflict, no one ever did any harm to this place. The locals are dissapointed.
Belfast Eye
Every city has to have its own eye these days
lamps
Europa hotel - the most bombed hotel in the world
People having fun
No comments...
The Crown - the most famous pub
quite nice I must say
Inside as well
Nice atmosphere
The Crown
City centre
Consumption
City hall
The fish
And that's it! Looking forward to the next trip!:)
