United Way Celebrates ‘I Love to Read’ Month with Newest Big Red Bookshelf decication at Rathke Bachhuber Children's Emergency Department at St. Mary's Medical Center
In celebration of ‘I Love to Read’ Month, United Way of Greater Duluth is launching a seventh Big Red Bookshelf at the Rathke Bachhuber Children’s Emergency Department, located at St. Mary’s Medical Center on Monday, February 22nd at noon. The Big Red Bookshelf project by United Way’s “Success By 6” Advisory Council places big red bookshelves filled with new or gently-used books appropriate for children ages birth through eight throughout the community where parents and children are encouraged to read and to take home.
The new bookshelf was built by Sam Kohlbry, Duluth Boy Scout Troop 28, for his Eagle Scout project. Taking it a step further, he enlisted his neighborhood in collecting more than 200 books to fill the shelf.
