A Knitted Wonderland

The Blanton Museum asked textile artist Magda Sayeg to organize an instalation as part of Explore UT, an annual open house at the university. She requested help from local knitters and crocheters to decorate the 99 trees located in the courtyard next to the museum and named it A Knitted Wonderland. The Guys in Austin with Yarn group, of which I am a member, voluntered to wrap tree #65. We split the knitting amongst four of us. I was unable to assist with the actual instalation, but I stopped by the day after to see the results.

Jalapeno Burgers

My attempts to make a jalapenio burger over the past couple months. I was inspired after a friend showed videos of people attempting to eat the Four Horseman Burger. So far I have made some great tasting burgers which lack kick for some reason. The experiments must continue!

LBJ Wildflower Center

Some of my friends had never been to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. They organized a trip to look around. I had visited several times in past years, but it is always fun to take photographs of flowers. Besides, this was a good opportunity to put my new lens to the test. It did produce a short field of view as advertised, though some pictures could have benefited from a bit wider range. Focusing on a limited area is all the rage right now (bokeh). Overall I am happy with the results, but I need to learn when to turn down the background blur when necessary. A few of us went out for lunch after which we walked around Town Lake. This was my first time walking on the trails there. It was much more crowded than where I normally walk but still nice. I used my new GPS iPhone app to record our path. WildBasin

Our company was closed today in honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday. Several coworkers joined me for a hike to Hamilton Pool outside of Austin. Unfortunatley we found the entrance gate locked due to last week's rain. Our second attempt at Commons Ford Ranch also failed since they are apparently closed on Mondays. I remembered hiking at Wild Basin Preserve a few years ago, so we decided to make a final attempt. Thankfully they were open.

RoadTrip09

A few photos taken during my drive from Fort Lauderdale, FL back to Austin, TX. Plane ticket prices were extremely high due to the very last minute planning of this trip, so I decided to drive. The returning portion was broken up by a few site seeing stops to help break up the monotony of another long drive.
