Foothills Startup Breakfast - photos - 28aug2011

This was a very successful surprise celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Marc Salkin becoming our minister. This was a surprise for Marc and Vicki who thought it was just another of our regular late August Startup Breakfasts. Our church is turned into the site of a huge Rummage Sale for the last half of August and so we end up in City Park.

Katie Love's dance recital

Katie was part of a Dance Recital on 6/12 at the Washington Center in downtown Olympia. She is the third dancer from the front and leads the bow at the end. The photos and video were taken at the dress rehearsal on Sat.

Yaquina Head - Newport, OR

This is a BLM location with a very nice Visitors Center. We had time to be tourists while the grandkids were in school on Mon and Tue. The common murres shown in one photo and the video are amazing birds. They dive for food and typically get to depths of 100 to 200 feet but there have been reports of finding them nearly 600' down (no, this is not a typo!)

Terry Point on a Thu morning in early May

Yes, I am fascinated by White Pelicans and flowering trees. As for the sorry state of Terry Lake ... it is very low. They have started providing water to farmers on the Eastern Plains and we have a very healthy snowpack in the mountains. The high country reservoirs are full, but the snow is preventing access to the flood-gates and so this water can't get down to us.

a ride in Jim's Alfa Romeo

Jim has been working for 6 years reconditioning his heavily modified 1958 Alfa Romeo coupe. It is a Giulietta Sprint Veloce with a 1750cc engine. He has owned the vehicle for 36 years. This album has some photos and some short videos. Turn the sound up for the videos!

I visited the Kansas Aviation Museum which is located in the 1930 vintage Wichita Air Terminal. My first visit to this building was in 1952 when I boarded a DC-6 bound for Chicago on my way home to NJ after a summer in KS.

Up the Poudre Canyon with the Raczs

We took our guests Barbara and John Racz up the Poudre Canyon to Cameron Pass and back to Fort Collins. The Cache la Poudre River was flowing at about 1,700 cfs. We saw the moose at Cameron Pass. Aaah, the joy of having a 20X zoom ... handheld! These photos are a tribute to Canon's Image Stabilizing technology.

Astronaut Dottie returns to FCHS

Astronaut Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger spoke at the end-of-school assembly at Fort Collins High School. One month earlier she completed a 238 orbit mission to the Intl Space Station on the Space Shuttle Discovery. Dottie joined the choir in singing the school song at the end of the assembly. This was the most remarkable assembly I have ever attended at FCHS.

Lincoln City visit Sep 2009

We spent a week in Lincoln City from 8/29 to 9/05. We rented a very nice 3 bedroom house about 4 blocks from the ocean. I took a lot of pictures of the house and a lot of the 3 grandkids, 18 mo old Sam, Ethan-7, and Margery - 9. I think I displayed admirable restraint by only posting a few of the grandkid photos.

My first cousin Ellen (Parker Conner) Webb died on 6/21 and her memorial service was held in Oklahoma City on 6/26/2009. Her remains were buried in Ponca City after the service.

2009 may 28 more pelicans

This morning a pelican caught a fish too big to swallow. Within seconds a second pelican flew in and tried to get the fish away from the first one. This battle went on for at least 5 min and I think the fish won.

Early Childhood Grad at Rice Elem

Cindy and Maryann held a family "graduation" for the early childhood ed class I volunteered in this year. As you can tell by the short videos, the kids really enjoyed performing for their families and friends. It was a nice way to end a good school year. Most of them will be off for kindergarten next year.

Brother-in-law Bob was nice enough to take a Monday off to get me out to the new Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles Airport. The size of this facility and the scope ot the displays is nearly overwhelming. We spent 4.5 hours there and didn't see everything.

Pacific Marketplace is the best place to wait for a flight that I have ever found. We flew the Thompson approach which took us over RMNP and so we saw Trailridge Road, the Alluvial Fan, and finally crossed over to the plains just south of Loveland
