Sooner football madness on the first game day of the college football season. Campus Corner, Norman.
Tens of thousands of people cram into several city blocks as all of Norman goes football crazy.
Stalls and tents and big-tops pop up everywhere as people sell merchandise, drinks and food. Everyone is wearing crimson & cream, the OU colours.
Do I make a good running back?
The OU marching band, part of it at least, they number over a hundred.
Sorority girls and avid OU football fans, a few 'accented' words and they're all smiles and ready for a photo shoot...
Dozens and dozens of people set up Trailer Parties, where they just take over a section of sidewalk around the football stadium and party all day.
These guys were running around with the OU flag causing a stir.
I found out they are the Ruff/Neks, who go to every game with the Sooner Schooner, inspired by local history where the term Sooner became famous with the Oklahoma Land Runs. [end of first college game day photos]
OU vs Texas in Dallas! Dinner at, uh, can't remember, but it was good food.
Nate & the Z mark, drinking a napkin in the limo on the way back to the hotel.
Obviously drunk.
Mad limos.
OU supporters :)
We went to Humperdinks for the big game, tables all over the place had beer stands on the table, like a smaller, see through keg :)
Dozens of screens throughout the bar were all on college football.
OU scores!
Game day again in Norman! A home match for the OU football team draws the crowds to town, as we walk a mile from where we parked. Here's the Big Red bus.
First we watched the OU volleyball match for the girls we'd met out a few days ago.
#1 ranked Nebraska line up as the visiting team.
To standing applause the OU girls run onto the court.
Sarah #6 lines up for her punishing volleys while Julie #1 is ready at the net.
Julie sets up a volley by the net.
Sarah serving.
[Skipping forward to another volleyball match] OU vs Texas Women's Volleyball : Sarah in the air at the net.
Julie defends a Texas volley.
OU calls a timeout.
Sequence of Sarah's serve.
#4 ranked Texas beat OU unfortunately, players congratulate each other at the net. [end of OU vs Texas volleyball]
OU golf cart :)
In the stadium. The huge OU marching band comes out. Nate tells me the Texas A&M band is the best in the nation & rivals military marching bands.
[Album Cover]
The flag of Oklahoma.
Tens of thousands stand with hand on heart for the U.S. national anthem. At the end of the anthem, the crowd shouts over the singer 'the land of the free, and the home of the SOONERS!'
The Ruff/Neks run around with the Sooner Schooner, Boomer and Sooner the horse-drawn carriage mascots of the Oklahoma Sooners.
Nate got me the ticket for $70.
College football; Oklahoma Sooners vs Missouri Tigers, home game for OU at the Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, crowd numbers just over 80 000.
The game went from the mid afternoon through to early evening.
Missouri band makes a show. They had nice cheerleaders, this was the closest I got unfortunately.
Oooooo U! The crowd holds the call with fingers pointing in the air when the ball is about to be kicked, shouting 'U' on the kickoff.
This kid was awesome, he'd cry out on calls against us and pull his hat off, throwing his arms in the air in protest!
Exodus from the stadium.
The Oklahoma Memorial Stadium lights.
