Gifts In Kind Day at Knowledge Systems & Research in Dewitt January 2012

Knowledge Systems & Research in Dewitt kindly donated their office furniture and other items to United Way of Central New York's GIfts-In-Kind program last week. Local non-profits such Salvation Army, Menorah Park, YWCA, Vera House and Home Headquarters were among the 14 organizations that benefitted from this event. Chairs, desks, file cabinets and computer tables were among the donations given to the community. Many thanks!

2012 MLK Holiday Annual Clothing & Food Drive and Stuff the Bus Event!

A call for gently-used clothing, non-perishable food and school supplies for families in need was sent out and Central New Yorkers generously responded! On Monday, January 16th dedicated members of the Greater Syracuse Labor Council, United Way and dozens of community volunteers came together for the 2012 MLK Annual Clothing & Food Drive and Stuff the Bus event at Teamsters 317. Many thanks to all involved!

Christmas Bureau 2011

Each year the Christmas Bureau, a joint partnership between the Salvation Army and United Way of Central New York join forces to raise funds to provide over 2,900 families with a meal and presents for their children during the holidays. Christmas Bureau Distribution Day took place today at the OnCenter with over 800 dedicated volunteers from across Onondaga County in attendance. Volunteers, including United Way staff, were personal shoppers for families, helped package meals and distributed books to over 7,000 children.

Hat & Glove Donation from Syracuse Opera

Tis the season for giving and that is just what Syracuse Opera did for our Gifts-In-Kind program today - they gave or rather, they donated. Many, many thanks to the team at Syracuse Opera for donating over 100 pairs of gloves and hats to Gifts-In-Kind. Your generous donation will allow us to help so many families this holiday season! Gifts-in-Kind Diaper Delivery

Tis the season for giving and that is just what United Way of CNY's Gifts-in-kind program did today! Through our partnership with Good 360, our Gifts-in-Kind program was able to secure and give away hundreds of diapers to local organizations who provide services to families in need. Over 20 organizations including, Vera House, Westcott Community Center, Enable and the Baldwinsville Volunteer Center received donations of diapers.

Old Newsboys 2011

United Way of CNY was just one of over 20 volunteer groups hawking special editions of The Post-Standard Friday morning to raise money for the Christmas Bureau in order to buy gifts and food for needy families for the holidays. The Old Newsboys volunteers were at shopping malls, gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants and bars. United Way staff could be found at National Grid, Starbucks on the SU Hill, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, SRC and the corner of James St. & Midler Ave. The newspapers are donated, so all money raised goes to the Christmas Bureau program, which will distribute gifts and food to needy families Dec. 22 at the Oncenter.

Loretto Paws on Parade

Loretto wrapped up their internal campaign for United Way of Central New York today with a 'Paws on Parade.' Employees brought their four legged friends to Loretto for a light-hearted and friendly 'dog-show, ' complete with prizes and bragging rights for the dog with the best personality. Take a look at some of the pets that were highlighted throughout the competition.

Dictionary Day 2011

The season of giving is in full swing and the Corporate Volunteer Council (CVC) is kicking things off with their annual Dictionary Project – a spin-off of National Dictionary Day. Members of the Corporate Volunteer Council of Central New York have stepped up to volunteer & purchase English & Spanish dictionaries for the third grade students at twenty-one elementary or Grades 1-8 schools in the Syracuse City School District. Sponsors then collect the books from a designated distribution site & present them to the third graders at their “sponsored” school on Thursday, November 17th for Dictionary Day. The goal of the Dictionary Project is to assist all students in becoming solid writers, active readers, creative thinkers, & resourceful learners by providing them with their own personal dictionary to use at school and at home. In addition to Spanish dictionaries, dictionaries in; Arabic, Burmese, Karen, Nepali, Somali and Vietnamese will be distributed in school libraries.

SRC & SRC Tec Triathalon

A little bit of rain couldn't keep the employees from SRC & SRC Tech from holding their mini-triathalon to support United Way of CNY! The event consisted of 8 teams of employees competing in a three legged race, bike ride and bobbing for apples. Four lucky employees also had the opportunity to throw a pie at their colleagues as a prize for stepping up their fundraising efforts this year!

SRC's Kickoff Carnival

SRC kicked off their Untied Way of CNY campaign Wednesday afternoon with a carnival for staff. Employees participated in mini-golf, a bean bag toss, hoola hoop and ski-ball contests while taking some time out of their day to support United Way! Thank you SRC!

Wegmans Day of Caring 2011

Wegmans employees from across Central New York came together at Matthew 25 Farm in Tully for their Day of Caring. Employees volunteered by working in the field to pick squash, tomatoes and potatos, all of which will go to local food pantries in Onondaga County.
