Kohima_Cathedral
The "Mary Help Of Christians Cathedral" is situated on Aradurah hills. The Cross of the church is the largest in Asia. The architecture of the church is that of a traditional Naga house. The church, formally inaugurated in 1991, was largely funded by Japanese in memory of a large number of their countrymen who died in the 'Battle of Kohima' during April - June 1944.

The World War II Cemetery, spread over a slope below 'Garrison Hill', is maintained by the Commonwealth War Grave Commssion. At the lower end, is a stone plaque paying homage to soldiers of the 2nd Division who died during the siege of Kohima by Japanese during April - June 1944 and were buried here. At the upper end is a memorial for Indian soldiers cremated at the site. Between these two, are rows of grave stones. A poignant scene.

"The Heritage" was the residence of D.C. (District Commissioner) of Kohima. It was converted into a heritage hotel. The Bungalow is in Officer's Hill and is located at a nice location, slightly away from the highway and on a hillock. The staff are very courteous. A colonial era bungalow embellished with Naga culture, in a serene environment: worth staying once.

A visit to Mana Village, the last Indian village before the border with Tibet. Two attractions here are 'Bhim pul' and Saraswati river. There is a huge rock over 'Saraswati river', placed by Bhim according to Legends; this is called Bhim pul. A further 5km walk leads to the Vasudhara water Falls, whose water flows below unmelt snow even in August.

(1) Majuli, Largest river island
Majuli (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Majuli) is World's largest river island. It was formed about 250 years ago due to severe earthquakes that resulted in the mighty Brahmaputra river flowing in two branches. Due to isolation, the island retained an Assamese culture in Vaishnavite 'Xatras'. There are several Xatras (derived from the word 'satra') in the island; the Kamalabari Nathun is the biggest. A picture album of the travel to Majuli. This is the first of a series of photo albums related to my trek in Tawang region, Arunachal Pradesh.

orchha
Orchha is a place about 15kms from Jhansi in central India. 'Orchha' means hidden. Even though the oral history of Orchha dates back to 6th century BC (according to the light and sound show at the fort complex), it was hidden from outsiders due to dense forest surrounding the region. It came into prominence during 9th to 14th century A.D. In 1531, Raja Rudra Pratap Singh, the bundel khand king was looking for a safer capitol (safe from Moghul riders) and established the capitol in Orchha - an island formed by two channels of Betwa river. A photologue of Orchha.
