The Saner Motorcycle Gang! Ready to ride on our 1600 mile trip around Lake Superior.
Putting on our rain gear.
Floyd's improvised way to waterproof his riding boots.
Dale on his motorcycle with a view of the Mackinac Bridge tower in the distance.
We stopped at a rest area just before getting on the Mackinac Bridge. Johann laid his rain jacket on the back of Dale's motorcycle and Dale took off without noticing the jacket. It fell off Dale's bike after we got on the approach to the bridge. Johann's rain jacket is way back there in the middle of the road - at the top of the rise beyond the overhead signs. Johann is in the background walking (running?) along the road.
Johann with the retrieved jacket! He is standing next to his motorcycle.
Johann talking with his dad. I didn't hear the conversation, but can imagine Johann is giving his dad h#$%^$% for not noticing the jacket on the back of the motorcycle.
Crossing the Mackinac Bridge. Dale and Johann are ahead.
Not the best day for a nice view from the bridge.
Yikes!! This part of the bridge (iron grate) is a bit squiggly on a motorcycle - even more so when driving one-handed and taking a picture!
Whoa! Look out for that car in your lane. (I took this photo with the camera facing backwards.)
A self portrait while driving across the Mackinac Bridge. Hmmm, shouldn't I be looking ahead instead of at the camera?
Joe's Java Cafe, St. Ignace, MI. This is one crazy place with great food. We had to crowd three motorcycles into one parking space.
Our table at Java Joe's. Notice our motorcycles outside the corner window.
Joe's menu is in newspaper format.
Great wraps - there were many combinations to choose from.
The Jacuzz in our room!
No comment!! Just fast forward through the next few pictures!
The next group of pictures were taken on the ride from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, to Wawa, Ontario. The road Route 17, the Trans-Canada Highway.
Taken with the camera pointing backwards. Floyd is leading, Johann is in the middle, and Dale is the 'back door.'
Dale was leading our ride, and suddenly turned off on a small road. He discovered this small cove off Lake Superior. I thought of Alan and Chris Kelly when I saw the sailboat. It appeared the crew was settling in for the evening and night.
Our bedroom in Wawa, Ontario. I wish there was sound with this picture!!
The Crash!! The bike and rider escaped unscratched - go figure! Place your bets/comments in the space below - hint: think "Grandpa". (you might need a Google account to post comments).
Gee, and a pub next door too!
The sauna is in the barrel under the lower roof to the right of the picture.
Our room at the Barrel Inn. We had two bedrooms, three beds, a kitchen and a living room - all for $65 CN.
The Wawa town "mascot" is a Flying Goose.
Fishing supplies in the general store.
This couple sat at the general store too long.
Wah's Restaurant: Chinese and Canadian cuisine. Johann asked, "What is Canadian cuisine?"
Barrel Inn!! Our place for the night.
Our room is on the second floor, just behind the second planter from the right.
Kayaking on the MacIntyre River in Thunder Bay, ON.
Canada Geese on the river - well, we are in Canada!
A blue heron is sitting just to the left of the log.
Better view of the blue heron.
The Sleeping Giant in Thunder Bay.
Johann showing off his expertise.
The blue heron is in flight in the center of the picture.
The kayak rental shop. The owner was quite a character!
Hoito's Restaurant in Thunder Bay.
Kakabeka Falls, Thunder Bay, ON. The next several pictures and videos are of the falls.
