Local Chania to Souda bus - they simply tear the ticket, that's your receipt.
At Souda, we take the boat to Piraeus (near Athens). 9 hours later...
Arriving in Piraeus, we must get to Athens train station... the metro should do the trick.
Unfortunately, the metro workers went on strike and the connecting line to Athens was closed... so we waited for the strike to end at 9am, thus: a second metro ticket.
Go figure, we arrive at the train station but there are no seats until 12 midnight. So, we take a taxi to the bus station instead. The bus is a mere 7 hours to Thessaloniki. Relax... you've got the time.
The trip to Istanbul has been fun. After the 6-hour car ride back to Thessaloniki, we return by overnight train to Athens... another 6 hours.
Our Koumbaros (who met us at the train station upon our arrival) gives us a ride to the bus station, where we catch a bus to the airport.
Flight from Athens to Chania is a mere 50 minutes - as compared to that overnight, 9-hour boat ride... sometimes, convenience is worth the price.
Bus from airport back to our neighborhood in Chania, and we're home!
The passport proof.
