At Hugging Point just South of Canon Beach, the sand was eroded over twenty feet. The crevice that Alana is standing in was ten feet under stand. This is where the petrified wood was found.
The dark spots are pieces of wood slowly petrifying in the hardening sand. this is the "ghost forest" that is coming to the surface. Unfortunately, much of the wood has been smashed to pieces by the surf and picked up by tourist. Another few weeks and the sand will fill back in.
Didn't see a shipwreck, , or large logs, but, with sun and beautiful water, the drive was enjoyable.
