5th Lead Country Meeting

The 5th annual meeting of the YEN Lead Country Network took place from 11-12 May, 2011 in London in collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat. The meeting was held directly after "Investing in Youth Conference" of the Commonwealth Youth Programme on 9-10 May, 2011 which allowed participants to attend both events. The venue of the meeting was the Marlborough House of the Commonwealth Secretariat. The main purpose of the Lead Country meeting was to discuss the results of the first Benchmarking Exercise and the Benchmarks for Youth Employment report 2010. Additionally, representatives of the Lead Country Network exchanged on news in terms of youth employment programs and challenges such as collecting data. Participants were satisfied with the event and felt that the information and knowledge gained was enriching.

4th Lead Country Meeting

The Youth Employment Network, in collaboration with the Government of Zambia, the International Labour Office (ILO), and the Commonwealth Secretariat, and with financial support from the Department of Works and Pension of the United Kingdom, organized a meeting of YEN Lead Countries featuring training and discussions on “Benchmarking Tools and Best Practices in Youth Employment”. It was held at the Taj Pamodzi Hotel, in Lusaka, Zambia, on December 7 – 8, 2009

YEN's Evaluation Clinic - Damascus

In an effort to broaden the evidence base for “what works” in improving employment outcomes for youth, YEN brought together a team of evaluation specialists from its core partners at ILO, World Bank and UN with employment practitioners from the Middle East to share best practice in conducting rigorous evaluations. The Clinic was hosted by the Syria Trust for Development’s Shabab Programme in Damascus as part of the World Banks’s Global Partnership on Youth Employment and Employability.

Youth Employment Public Private Partnerships Fair

As the key driver for economic growth and job creation, it is essential that the private sector in West Africa takes the lead in finding solutions to the region’s youth employment challenge. On 9 and 10 June 2009, YEN’s Office for West Africa joined its partners at Microsoft and Planetfinance to host the region’s first ever Public Private Partnerships Fair for Youth Employment. The objective of the event was to launch new partnerships between NGOs working on youth employment and their counterparts in the world of business. By the end of the workshop, plans for 5 new youth employment projects were being discussed.

YEN Results Measurement Workshop - Amman, Jan 20, 2009

Measuring Results in Youth Employment: Experience from training interventions Too little is known about “what works” in the area of youth employment programming. YEN strives to increase the evidence base for effective programme design and implementation while encouraging accountability amongst youth employment practitioners. To this end, YEN convened a workshop entitled “Measuring Results in Youth Employment: Experience from training interventions” on January 20th in Amman, Jordan. The workshop was held as a side event to the International Youth Foundation’s meeting on Employability – Youth – Opportunity. The workshop brought together youth employment practitioners from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region with specialists from YEN’s core agency partners (ILO, World Bank and UN).

PSI Event Dakar

YEN’s regional workshop entitled “Business Collaboration for Youth Employment in West Africa” brought together the managers of 11 business sponsored youth employment projects operating in the sub-region. The goal of the workshop was to share experiences on good practice in collaborating with business on youth employment; generate ideas on how to improve and scale up projects and to provide direction and guidance for future and current activities of YEN-WA’s Private Sector Initiatve. The event was sponsored by the UK Department for Work and Pensions.
