"I understand your sentiments about big meetings. I didn't go to the big ones for many years, until I started TWiV. I'm here to do a live TWiV on Tuesday, which is important to promote what we are doing. But most of the virologists here don't use social media - so it will be hard to connect with them in other ways."
Vincent Racaniello
"Never did make it to one of the big U.S. meetings (biggest I ever did was European Congress of Virology). The older I get, the less it seems to matter, especially now we have social media. Not that I'm denying the importance of f2f meetings, but the big ones don't promote that anyway."
Alan Cann
"This is a very cool campus. The architecture is both modern and classic college. Here is a nice touch: rentable bikes. Put in your money, take the bike from the rack."
Vincent Racaniello
"Here is Ana Lorena Gutierrez from Mexico. She has been on TWiV."
Vincent Racaniello
"Here is Eric Delwart on the bus, across from Rich Condit. Eric has been on TWiV."

"After the keynote talk, everyone got into buses to go to other talks. They are scattered all over campus, hence attendees (1200) must travel by bus. They are very crowded and everyone ends up late to the sessions. The campus is really too big for this type of meeting."
Vincent Racaniello
"That is Steve Goff in the background. Looks like it worked - using Piconhand for iPad."
Vincent Racaniello
"Terry Dermody, ASV President, about to open the meeting and introduce Steve Goff. There should be a photo attached, posting from Picasa. Trying this for first time."
