Hello - Welcome to Chesapeake City Calan Days - June 26, 2010
Each year I take a photographer up for photographs - and have posted SOME here to share with you all.
This is the Chesapeake Inn - the main location for the boating community that fills the basin for the event.
The downtown is in the foreground and looking East over the basin. The first dock on the right (out by itself with two boats) is my dock.
Our house can be seen in the upper left corner of this photo. Lots of boats!
Looking back from our aerial platform at most all the boats in the basin.
Some of the boats anchoring together for the event. This helps the coast guard control the traffic flow thru the basin in and out.
Another group of boats.
You can see some of the upper parking for the Chesapeake Inn parking. Kenny's marina to the lower left has filled his parking lot also. The town warf is in the lower right of this shot.
A little higher up shot of again most of the boats in the basin - want to make a count?
On my way to Summit for fuel, caught MikeF out in his back yard.
A good shot of Mike and RussAnn's front yard. Pool looks good!
Now over Delaware enroute to Summit Airport, have to get JimB's house. Out pet Docs house.
A front view of the pet Docs estate.
The pilot of the mission working.
Good shot - heading south over the canal and the Summit bridge with boats in the canal below. Summit Airport is just in view in the upper right if you know where to look fellow pilots.
Now in the upper right you get a better shot of the 17 end of the Summit end of the airport. We are landing there for fuel. Route 896 south out the window.
Poor mans Enstrom rotor brake. Just be careful but it works for the fuel truck guy who is in a hurry.
I always fuel my own tank just to make sure all is well.
you have to pay attention not to overflow the tank since on that side the HOT exhaust is right below the fuel tank AND boy was it a HOT day - around 90+ and 90+ humidity. Thank goodness I have a turbo 280C!
Another shot of removing the fuel hose.
You have to position the ladder to miss the landing gear. Tommy is always supervising for me.
Right side tank getting fuel.
A close up of checking the fuel level - you just have to pay attention.
Winding up the grounding line and the fuel hose to the truck - off camera to the right of this shot.
Tom wanted a cameo - best I can do - let's get going again back home and a few more shots.
Heading back to Chesapeake City Heliport 04MD. Development off to the left is south of the canal in Delaware.
A quick shot of homebase. That's our building and Keith's truck means at least he is working today. Our local bank is in the foreground.
If you look close you can begin to see our LZ in the back of the building. YES - it's red to match the helicopter - what did you expect?
Another shot of the LZ. It's a tight fit and you need to REALLY pay attention to the tree, guardrail, fence, and rising grass on two sides BUT - it can be done!
Another shot. The normal approach is from the top of the picture down. Oh, did I mention the telephone poles (above the top of this photo) on the upper side of this shot?
A second shot more to the left - that's our matching RED car trailer too!
On the way back to drop off the passenger at the High School we ght a quick shot of Edward and Laci's house - brown roof. About a mile south of the shop on Route 213.
Going by quickly but at least no strut in this photo - their house it far right in this shot.
The approach (1) to pick up the photographer.
The approach (2) to pick up the photographer.
The approach (3) to pick up the photographer.
Final hover to touchdown.
On the ground - climb aboard - BUT - please duck. Hope you enjoyed my short Canal Day ride!?
One of our Canal Day party goers at the house blowing bubbles at you - have a great summer!
