Bolton Abbey circular - Tuesday 13 March 2012

A grand walk of about 7 miles from Bolton Abbey village to Barden Bridge and back. Lots of birds about and constant birdsong made this a very enjoyable walk even though the weather was mostly grey and chilly.

Carron Crag 27 Jan 12

A cold and rather mixed weather day on Carron Crag, Grizedale Forest. The walk , with Barrie, was partly to hopefully see the red kites which were released here in 2010. The birds had a better idea and stayed out of view. Rain, sleet, hail and a small bit of sunshine. Nice walk of just under 6 miles all the same.

A lovely walk with Barrie over Steel Knotts to Howtown then round the base of Hallin Fell to Sandwick and back. Nice and sunny but a very cool wind. Total length 6 miles.

Bowscale Fell 14 Oct 2011

A gloomy but lovely walk over Bowscale Fell with Barrie. It's a fell I haven't been on in 19 years. We had intended to carry on over Bannerdale Crags but with the thought of no views from there either, we opted for a shorter walk.

Nab End plus with Hollie 9 Aug 2011

A lovely walk with Hollie and a reverse of the walk we did earlier this year. She had the choice of going to Bolton Abbey to the river and various other places but she wanted to climb on the mushroom stones again and see the fireman's helmet. I didn't mind at all.

Trollers Gill and the River Wharfe 10 June 2011

A grand walk from Barden Bridge along the Wharfe to Howgill then to Skyreholme and the narrow ravine of Trollers Gill - reputed haunt of a barguest, a troll with eyes as big as saucers - then over the moor to Hartlington, welcome brew at the car park cafe in Burnsall then back along the river to the car. A fabulous day seeing some good birdlife too.

OFC 10th anniversary weekend

A weekend in the Lakes to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Online Fellwalking Club. A walk on Saturday followed by a meal at night at the Mary Mount Hotel by Derwentwater meant time to meet up with old friends and new. A great weekend.

A lovely walk from Barden Bridge down the River Wharfe and to the lovely waterfalls in Posforth Gill. Looking for the elusive kingfisher, which made one brief appearance. But lovely weather and other lovely birds seen including nuthatches and a grey wagtail.

While staying with Barrie for a few days Hollie and I enjoyed a trip to Martin Mere Wetlands Centre. A lovely place, especially if you like ducks. Hollie loved the flamingoes - and the playground.

A short local walk with Hollie above Silsden taking in Nab End, Windgate Nick and the Doubler Stones. Also passing an unusual but striking stick sculpture of a howling wolflike beast - a mystery as no one is sure how it got there or who made it. It's only appeared there in the last couple of weeks. It was a lovely warm day too.

Common Fell and Watermillock Common

A lovely walk over the lower fells of Bracken How, Round How, Swineside Knott and Common Fell above Ullswater. We were looking straight into the sun for the main Ullswater pictures so they aren't as clear as I'd have liked.
