Maputo, the Capital of Mozambique

Mozambique, a large country in southern Africa across Madagascar with over 2000 km coastline, was for almost five centuries a Portuguese colony. It gained independence in 1975. Mozambique's development was slowed by large-scale emigration of qualified people, economic dependence on South Africa, a severe drought, and a prolonged civil war until the mid 1990's. Today it is a relatively free and stable country, but still requires substantial support for its further progress. I received the opportunity to conduct a short visit this summer, resp. during their winter season (southern hemisphere). Here I produce a first webalbum with pictures showing sights and impressions in and around its capital, Maputo. The pictures were taken with compact cameras from Panasonic and Canon.

Amazing Southern Costa Rica Part 2: Caribbean Manzanillo and Gandoca

This is the second album about my Costa Rica trip early 2007. We moved farther south along the Caribbean Coast to Manzanillo and Gandoca close to the border with Panama, where we spent about 3 days. The images present a mixture of the many fanatastic small critters found at the two locations plus some photographic aesthetism, a bit humor and biological information. I recommend to press F11 to use the large-framed slideshow (labeled as Diaschau) option. In order to read the text I added to the images, move the cursor to the lower edge of the screen, pause and proceed to the next slide manually (use arrow keys on your keyboard) or reduce the slide change to 10 sec. After set modificatinons, move cursor away, so the handling display disappears. Enjoy your trip.

Amazing southern Costa Rica, Part 1

This first album about a two-week trip to Costa Rica depicts a few images about the initial drive from San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, through the Braulio Carillo Natl. Park and southeast to Cahuita on the Atlantic Coast. I traveled with longtime friends and biologists Herbert and Yvonne Billing and their youngest daughter Sarah. I recommend to view it as a slideshow and F11. For text-reading adjust the image sequence to about 10 seconds. I tried to get the best out of my small compact camera, a Nikon Coolpix 4500. It broke on the return flight to Switzerland. I guess it was its time. All photos were taken by me unless otherwise noted by Herbert Billing. Enjoy, Konrad Mebert

Herptour in Turkey 1: from Antalya to Ephesus

This album shows some of the herp-findings and their habitats, as well as scenic photography of natural and a few cultural encounters during the first week of my trip to southwestern Turkey in April 2006. This is the first album since my move from the Webshots to the Picasa platform due to the larger image-display in the latter. Please apply the slideshow option and press F11 to comfortably view the show. Overall image quality was somewhat limited due to capacity of my little compact camera, a Nikon Coolpix 4500. But I hope you still enjoy the presentation.
