Flower trellis outside our cottage
Lubang Elementary School
Cashew Fruit. The seed is what you eat. I don't think the fruit itself is edible but the locals disagree
Hey here they come!
What can I say? The kid is really shy
We didn't have enough XOs when we got to Lubang
The kids had to share
It's Mr. Samonte's turn to do his "demo" teaching
The parents were there to observe
They were asked by Mr. Samonte to take pictures of: a boy, a girl and a "thing" using the Record activity
This is a demo drill for the teachers. They were each given 15-20mins. to demo what they learned from the training. Mr. Samonte used the activities Speak (to practice pronunciation of the words: circumference, continous and chaos) and the Record activity for the kids to take three pictures of: a boy, a girl and a thing
Mrs. Sanchez' (Math teacher) turn to demo. I was a bit concerned on her not having anything to use in the XO but she surprised us with a "Symmetry" lesson
She asked the kids to use the Browse activity's images to look at nature pictures to look for lines of symmetry in them.
Then she asked the kids to look for symmetrical objects around the room
Mrs. Masangkay's turn (she's an English teacher). She had to change her demo last minute as Mr. Samonte used the Speak and Record activities similar to what she originally planned to do. So she asked the students to use the Record activity to introduce themselves: their names, and three things that they like to do
Mr. Aldave's (He's new to the district and really wanted to teach Makabayan or "Filipino" but decided instead to step up to become a Science teacher). He's using Christine Murakami's Etoys project on Earthquake for his demo.
By this time the Mayor is in the room. I think someone's a little nervous.
Mayor Sanchez dropped by to observe the demo
The kids having a snack while we talk to their teachers for some feedback regarding their demos
The customary peace sign
Umm...kids...you're forgetting something
Tessa's giving her observations and feedback to the teachers
Ate Kareen looking so cool on her bike
An identity crisis: Is it a tricycle or a jeepney?
One of the modes of transportation in Lubang
Lovely Mrs. Yuvienco
Yes I love school
The beautiful Mrs. Medrano. The local DepEd chief
These are the texbooks that the kids use. They've been used, re-used and abused. It's time for a change
Ahhh...to replace these with better digital versions is one of my biggest dreams.
Aiming for the perfect shot
Time to go! We're all meeting for lunch
