Approaching the terminal face of Franz Joseph Glacier via a 2km hike.
Waterfalls like these are all over the surrounding valley walls.
Lush valleys juxtaposed against barren and grit-coated glacial ice.
Steps are cut into the ice almost on a daily basis, as the glacier melts and freezes.
We climb the steepest section of the glacier - the face, where it begins to melt and meld into the stream.
Our knowledgeable guides with their pick axes to cut us some steps into the ice.
Gavin hands us our weapons to hunt for Yeti... just kidding, they are ice axes that are optional and not truly necessary for the hike. But many of us dudes picked one up anyways... because it looked cool.
Cascading crevasses like petals of a rose.
Ice tunnel.
Standing over a narrow, but deep crevasse.
Deep blue ice closeup.
Air bubbles in the ice.
The sign that I read AFTER the trip. Fun!
