The rocking platforms offer salvation to a discarded chair’s life by re-using it, but also a new relationship with its user. The dawn of this relationship is also enhanced by the new experience the rocking platform has to offer. Nonetheless, the use of one’s favourite chair, therefore transforming it into a rocking one, would enhance more experiences by using it extending in this way what the user cherishes into a higher level. The rocking platforms are made form solid ash and were built by Batch Design in Brighton.
Hestia Our current way of living in urban environments fills up our crowded days with deadlines and stress. Proximity in big metropolitan cities is present but intimacy is not. The only chance to escape all distractions is holidays, where time is given to the people we spend it with and experiences are shared. But why could we not take our time off while living in the city? Why could we not spend some quality time with one another, contemplate, relax and build up the missing intimacy instead of watching TV? Hestia is a heating coffee table, for indoor or outdoor use, designed to promote the sense of community and trust among those around it. Costas Bissas costas@costasbissas.com www.costasbissas.com

The main concept is the combination between my specialization as a Hydrodynamics Engineer and Industrial Designer. Therefore, the introduction of the flow concept is characterized as a distinctive design among ordinary design which is based on the common aesthetic discipline. At this stage, the flow concept is developed from natural investigations and mathematical researches and its representation is especially converted into solid material constructions as it is distinguished by the flow concept. Magnetic drawers Using magnetic handles, this system turns something as thoughtless as opening a draw, into an interactive and playful experience. A single magnetic handle inserts an element of mystery into the moment of first encounter, provoking strange questions. The magnetic effect adds to the feeling that something a little bit magic is going on and it alters the nature of the experience. The magnetic drawers are made from solid oak and birch plywood and were build by Batch Design in Brighton.
Flex pots The idea for the flex pots came through careful observation of how we look at plant life. Flowerpots are about control, they are constraining dirt in a defined space. Plants don’t think like that. For them life means spreading themselves out as far as possible and utilizing any given space. The Flex pot allows man to explore unusual planting spaces and create space for live where there didn’t use to be any. Wedged and planted in place the roots consolidate the soil capturing the shape of the pot’s surroundings and the pot keeps its shape. Prototypes made from PU rubber. dmeyer_id@yahoo.de
Hamster Shredder Is it possible to make ‘product compost’? Compost is great because you put waste in and you get something useful out. If the stuff that we would normally throw away had this ability to become something useful again, we might think about waste in a new way. It might not even be waste any more, just material. The hamster runs on his wheel, powering a shredder that shreds your unwanted documents into his bedding. Because micro generation is the future and everyone is responsible. Jugs These jugs form part of my work on the communication of science through household products. Much of science involves the use of apparatus to make invisible things visible and, therefore, measurable. It is these apparatus, and the very small and large things they detect that cause much of the difficulty in the understanding of science. The jugs are dealing with issues of scale and large numbers and how to make them tangible, and also with issues of arbitrariness – how we like to put things in boxes to make them easy to understand, even though there is no scientific reason to do this. Magnetic Stool We are all designers. We select what items to own, which to have around us. We buy, arrange, and restructure: all this is a form of design. Through these personal acts of design, we transform houses into homes, spaces into places, things into belongings. The best kind of design isn't necessarily an object, a space, or a structure: it's a process -- dynamic and adaptable. Boxes become chairs and newspapers become cup mats. Bricks and wood make shelves. Rugs become wall hangings… Not only can be simply used as stools, with the hidden magnets underneath the surface, but also Magnetic Stools can be assembled in many different ways, which provides the users more freedom of arrangement and personal interpretations of functions.
