On Sunday Nils took us on an outing to a small island just outside of Bergen - I took this photo out of car window as we drove along. This island was important in the Norwegian resistance in WW II
Interesting bus stop!
Crossing lots of water
And more water!
On the island of Store Sotra, a memorial to those in the village of Telavag who were killed by the German Nazis in 1942 for hiding two resistance fighters. The village was burned, and the remaining Norwegians were taken to a concentration camp where many more died.
Across the road from the memorial is this nice school. (Lis and Nils in front of the school)
Here is the Nordsjofartmuseet (something like North Sea Museum I think) that tells the story of Telavag, and of other Norwegian resistance activities. It was an interesting place, and they had a good 10 minute movie to help tell the story.
A mine left from the German occupation.
A flag commemorating the Norwegians being freed from Dachau in 1945.
The actual boat used by local hero Leif Larsen to carry many Norwegians across the North Sea to Shetland, Gr. Britain to escape the Nazi occupation.
The views of Telavag from the museum were beautiful. The village was rebuilt after WW II.
Looking out to the open sea from the fjord.
There was heather blossoming everywhere and the fragrance was just lovely!
After we toured the museum we had some fresh pancakes that this lady was making almost non-stop for all the visitors!
Lis, Carol and Nils walking back down to the car.
We drove back to Bergen and stopped at this Stavkirke on a hillside
Carol and Lis walking up the path to the church
Still climbing!
It was a small stavekirke, but very pretty and old
This was an ancient stone cross
Inside the church
Nearby building

I am quite sure that these are trolls toes....
The trees were huge hemlocks
They are big and I am small!! After this stop, we headed on back to Lis and Nils' house.
Back at the Teiglands, admiring all of their original oil paintings of different places in Norway. I have been to this spot - Stalheim, in central Norway. I can remember the view as if was yesterday!
For supper Annette, their daughter who lives next door, made us this delicious fish, shrimp and asparagus dish. It was unbelievably good!
Annette and Lis!
To end the day, we watched a small cruise ship leaving the fjord.
