Loch Coruisk and Sgurr na Stri
A classic walk from Loch Coruisk to Sligachan via Sgurr na Stri, starting with the boat trip from Elgol across Loch Scavaig. We had a short trip down Loch Corusik before climbing Sgurr na Stri to capture one of the best views Scotland has to offer. A long walk back to Sligachan followed but it was well worth the effort. It was a sunny and hot day.

A6 to M6 and Back
A walk from the A6 along the Whinfell Ridge to look down on the M6 in the Lune Gorge. Back via the lovely Borrowdale Valley. This would have been a better valley walk in drier conditions. A reason to return. We got the benefit of a good sunrise due to an early start. The predicted wet weather arrived on time although we were back at the car before the worst of it hit.

A selection of photos from a week spent in Flookburgh. They inlcude a day out at the Lakeland Vintage Car Show in Grange, a wet day in Ulverston and a few pictures from a visit to Coniston and Jenny's Cafe at Brantwood. Flookburgh does not spring to mind as a holiday destination but it proved to be a good base for the south end of the Lakes and plenty to do and see in the local area. Flookburgh is also where the Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding bakery is along with its 'Shop'. Well worth a visit.

Tourist Days
Photos from 2 touristy days. Wednesday 18th May was a day of frequent very heavy showers. The rainbow shots were taken in pouring rain. Friday 20th May was cool, snow on the Cuillin Ridge with a very strong wind. Not much point in going high so we had a trip around the Waternish and Dunvegan areas. The weather on the north of the island was much better than that around the Cuillin. On the way back to Sligachan, in a heavy hail shower, the temperature gauge on the car fell to +2C. Not bad for 20th May...

A few pictures from the journey to Skye and the first walk up Marsco. I climbed Marsco with my brother Paul and then went on to Beinn Dearg Mheadhonach with friend Paul. It was a day of sunshine and showers but fortunately not too may showers and we stayed largely dry. It was windy and the Black Cuillin was covered in cloud for much of the day. However, the Red Cuillin present their own challenges not least the drops between each of the peaks.

December Pics
A few pictures from snowy Lancashire. Susan's sister Kath is over from Malaysia for the Christmas holidays. We had an early Christmas dinner as Kath will be in Devizes on Christmas Day. We had a trip to the local park. Kath's children Oliver & Sophie have limited memories of snowy weather. Where they live the temperature is usually around +30c. Also a few pictures of an Ormskirk sunset. I had to walk into Ormskirk to visit the bank on a work related matter. I had taken the camera with me and got a few shots of a lovely sunset.

The Mell Fells
A walk on a wet and windy day from Aira Force over Gowbarrow Fell, Great Meldrum to Little Mell Fell. Then down to Nabend before a little road walk before climbing Great Mell Fell. Fortunately the cloud cleared on the summit and I was rewarded with some fine views. After descending I did a bit more road walking before taking the path back to High Force and Aira Force. It was a wet day with some very heavy showers but interspersed with sunny periods which allowed some good views.

A walk with members of the OFC around the Kentmere Horseshoe including High Street. Murky to begin with but then brightening to a lovely day. The last walk of the holiday. A route over some of the summits of Beinn Eighe taking in Ruadh stac Beag, Spidean Coire nan Clach, Sgurr Ban and Sgurr nan Fhir Duibhe. It turned out to be a great day and a fitting end to a super holiday.

Lochan Fada
An alleged rest/quieter day. We decided to take a walk from the Bungalow to have a look at the hills in the Fisherfiled Forest some of the remotest Munros. Many of them a good 10 to 12 mile walk from the nearest access point. It turned out to be a pleasant afternoon walk with approx 1000ft of ascent. We did cover about 12 miles so not quite the rest day envisaged.

An Teallach
A great day out on one of the finest Scottish mountains. A mixture of fine walking, lovely scrambling and some perspiring. This mountain is worth the effort. We did the whole ridge from Sail Liath to Bidean a Ghlas Thuil before descending to Ghlas Toll and walking back to the Corrie Hallie car park. This time we got the views. A highlight of the holiday.
Jun 7, 2010
Stac Pollaidh
A walk up the interesting peak of Stac Pollaidh. The cloud was down and hovering between 2000 and 2300 ft. A short walk but very interesting and challenging. There is a tricky rock pinancle on the ridge just before the summit. You have to climb and scramble over it to reach the highest point. This is a great little peak and well worth a visit. There is a prepared path all the way round.
Jun 6, 2010
Bruach na Frithe
A last walk on Skye up Bruach na Frithe. Starting from Sligachan we headed for the north west ridge, which does involve a little scrambling if you keep to the ridge, but it can be avoided on a path below the crest. Again we had another fine day and a close look at Am Bastier and its surrounding crags. We descended over Sgurr Bastier, a lovely ridge walk and back to Sligachan. The end of three fantastic days when even the notorious Skye weather cooperated. Not a misty cairn in sight!!!
Jun 4, 2010
Sgurr Alasdair
An ascent of the highest Cuillin peak via the Great Stone Shoot. The only route available for walkers according to the guide books. Ascending and descending the Stone Shoot certainly stretches the definition of a 'walk'. It was a beautiful day and the weather certainly encouraged plenty of people on to the mountains. Once up the Stone Shoot it is a relatively easy scramble to the top of yet another airy peak.
Jun 3, 2010
Sgurr nan Gillean
An ascent of Sgurr nan Gillean from Sligachan via the South East ridge, sometimes called the 'Tourist Route'. Some tourist!!!. It's the only way up that doesn't involve rock climbing but it does involve quite a scramble up and down the ridge. It is one of the smallest summits I have been on and the cloud cleared as we arrived which was a real bonus. A great day out and my first Cuillin peak.

Holiday Snaps
A few shots from rest days, a trip with Paul round the Wester Ross coastal trail, a little ramble up a low hill above Kinlochewe and some flowers. The flowers were quite common on the mountains. I have no idea what they are.

Day 2 Beinn Dearg
The second walk of the holiday saw Paul and I tackle Beinn Dearg, the one behind Liatach. It is 2999ft and therefore not a Munro. It gives great views of the Torridon mountains. It was a warm day with steep climbs and a bit of scrambling. Another good day out.
May 30, 2010
Sgurr Dubh - 1st walk of the holiday
A shortish introduction to get the legs going. A bit steeper than expected but a good walk to get the views across the Glen Torridon of Liatach and Beinn Eighe. Also a remider of how rocky and rough these mountains can be.

A Hartsop Walk
A walk from Cowbridge up Hartsop Above How, Hart Crag, Dove Crag, Little Hart Crag and High Hartsop Dodd. A cloudy day with odd glimpses of the sun. Clough Head - A Misty Cairn Tour
A walk from Wanthwaite going along the Old Coach Road to Mosedale Beck then heading up the valley to Calfhow Pike. Then into the mist to Clough Head descedning to Threlkeld Knotts via the path down Red Screes. After a wander around Threlkeld Knotts it was back to Wanthwaite via the old peat track and through the old quarries. Crinkle Crags from Eskdale
An unusual route from Brotherlikled to Crinkle Crags ascending via Rest Gill and descending by Adam-a-Cove and Swinsty Gill. We came back over Hard Knott. A fantastic day out especially as the strong winds forecast did not materialise. I was amazed at the number of people who had neither Ice Axes, Crampons or Spikes. The grassy rake and grassy depression that avoids the Bad Step, as described by AW, were one long and steep snow slope with fresh snow on top of ice. One slip and it was a long slide/fall into Adam-a-Cove. Anyway another great day on the Fells.

The Screes from Miterdale
Whin Rigg and Illgill Head from Miterdale. A new route for my mate Paul. Sunny then snow then magnificent views. Amazing how 40 minutes to an hour of snow showers can change the landscape. A perfect day ended in the Bower House in Eskdale Green and later a lovely sunset. Perfick.... It was very windy on the top but sheltered in the valley.
Jan 29, 2010
Pillar via Pillar Cove
A walk up Pillar from the end of Ennerdale Water. A long day out for January. Plenty of snow and ice to contend with on the ascent of the Shamrock Traverse and the final pull up to the summit. The descent down Wind Gap Cove required Ice Axe and Crampons to begin with. Due to the slow progress we ended up walking along the shores of the lake and crossing Anglers Crag in the dark. Head torches are useful things.
