Just before the start....Kyle Skaggs, eventual winner in the Montrail shirt.
Early trail....very runnable and shaded.
Still really nice
Sue Johnston up ahead and Kris Kern ahead of her
Kris Kern in the back of a pack up ahead
Distant mountains
Sue's happy!
Kris up ahead of another runner going up an early hill
Looking behind me...out of focus :-(
The Highline Trail...we just left Chris Creek
Getting warm and the downhills are rocky
Trail...still not too bad.
Getting worse!
Yikes! My freakin' ankles!
Ya, this is GOOD trail...
Oh and watch out for the spikes!
More wonderful rocky trail
This is the aid station (mile 17) where I last felt good.
Scott Mason (Wasatchspeedgoat) coming into the aid station.
It's getting HOT!!!
Barren...no trees...and lots of sun!
Ugh....desert....
More of the same...this went on forever.
At this point I had decided to end my race and wait for Deb. This is the Hell's Gate aid station crew sending me (#17) and my wife, Deb (orange shirt) off into the hot wilderness to our undoing.
Deb climbing up a nasty, hot hill...
My last photo...it was beginning to cloud over a bit, but not cooling off any.
