3-way junction that is actually 3 miles from Donner Pass and 1 mile from Miller Fork to the South (right).
Trail passes by a nice overlook about 2 miles below Donner Pass.
This meadow is about a mile below Donner Pass. Awesome sunrise.
Twin Sisters to the left. Longs and Meeker to the right.
Looking South (from where I came) at the 4-way junction at Donner Pass, a little above 10,000ft.
More signage at the Donner Pass junction. 5.2 miles from Miller Fork Road where I started.
And more signage.
Lookout Mountain summit (10,626ft) as viewed from this 10,500ft summit just to the East (which I climbed by mistake).
Crystal Mountain sits just to the East.
Signal and South Signal Mountains in the foreground pretty clear of snow.
Another Longs Peak view.
My false Lookout summit.
Should have made a sharp turn left at this cairn to summit Lookout instead of going straight through.
Now on the true Lookout summit viewing the peak I just summitted before.
How this summit cairn doesn't blow over, I don't know.
From the summit of Lookout Mountain.
East and West White Pine to the North from Lookout.
This trailhead is about a mile below turnoff to Lookout heading toward Crystal. ATVs allowed to this point but only motorcycles beyond (to Donner).
Looking East from this trailhead. Looks like it is turning into road but not for long as it goes back to gnarly, steep rocky trail.
Trail coming in from South. This is where the latest proposed Crystal Mountain loop would rejoin trail back to Donner.
Another mile down along Sheep Creek leads to this trailhead and a nice bridge where the trail does turn to more of a jeep road.
Upper end of the road.
A good 4wd vehicle probably can get to here but these were ATV tracks.
About a quarter mile down the road leads to this trailhead and the proposed ascent to Crystal. I turned around here.
The trail up Crystal to the left, while the road follows Sheep Creek. It should only be another half mile down this road to Crystal Mountain Road.
This sign is between the start of the road and the trail turnoff for Crystal. The TI map shows this area as state land but also shows public access going through it.
The climb back up to Donner Pass.
And it gets even steeper.
The turnoff for Lookout Mountain and now just a short descent back to Donner Pass.
Nice views on the descent back down the Donner Pass Trail toward Miller Fork. Was looking to return on the Indian Trail but couldn't find its upper junction with Donner Trail.
Some fast miles along here to make up for the slow climbing back to Donner Pass.
Get some steep, rocky sections.
There is private road access to the trail right by the 3-way junction at Miller Fork. Could provide aid station access here with permission.
Where the trail leaves Miller Fork and starts climbing toward Donner (4 miles up to the pass).
