2012 Regresar al Bienestar
Through a generous grant from Dignity Health, Cancer Support Community-Benjamin Center provided Regresar al Bienestar, a program for primarily monolingual Spanish-speaking Latina women with breast cancer who were uninsured, underinsured, or low income. The goal of the program was to create long lasting behavioral change and empower the women to take an active role in their physical, emotional and social recovery from breast cancer. The Regresar al Bienestar program, which was open to the women’s families as well, included four day-long workshops at Mercado La Paloma, a community gathering place in the Figueroa Corridor just south of downtown, and a weekly support group throughout the year, which took place at California Hospital Medical Center.
