New Year's Day 2012: Bastrop State Park
Our annual hike was in the burned Bastrop State Park. We wanted to support the park after the September devestation when 96% of the park burned. Amazing, most of the structures were spared.

Brian's Eagle Project
Brian's Eagle Project was to build dog agility training equipment for the Texas Hearing and Service Dogs. The project was completed over four different workdays: A prototype day, a cutting day, and assembling day and an installation day.

Brian Eagle: TSHD Recon
Brian met with the director of the Texas Service and Hearing Dogs facility in Dripping Springs to discuss possible Eagle Scout projects. One idea is to create new agility equipment for the dogs in their four play pens. Brian will work toward planning and, if approved, running this project through the summer.

Troop 448 held an Amazing Race campout full of scouting challenges and fun at Pedernales Falls State Park. It rained all weekend. Really. But the scouts had great spirit and had lots of fun.

Orienteering Challenge, 2010
Troop 448 participated in the 2010 Scout Orienteering Challenge at Bastrop State Park, entering 14 teams. We had two groups camping at Lost Pines, these photos being primarily the ranking Scouts on a backpacking cooking trip.

Fishing in Kemah
My brother Jeff took us out fishing in Galveston Bay near Clear Lake. Enjoyed the time with the family, but the fishing was nightmarish. No fish caught and boat broke down, and Tookies was closed. The boys also caught the skate park in Seabrook.

Texas Service Dogs project
Brian, Sean, Chris E. and John Michael R. spent a couple days this summer helping out at the Texas Service Dogs facility. The worked on some landscaping, cleaned dog beds and generally learned a lot about the organization.

Brian had his first track meet at McNeil High in Round Rock. It was a practice meet and a great introduction to the sport. He's coached by Gerald Smith of South Austin Steel track club.
The Flying Eagles (and now some Sharks) go on their first campout as scouts with Troop 448 to work on Tenderfoot and other ranks.

Tuesday was a travel day from Carlsbad to the Davis Mountains, but in between we fit in a trip to the Living Desert Museum in Carlsbad and a drive-by of the Guadalupe Mountains.

Day seven was actually and unexpected day. We were to travel to Del Rio, but opted for an extra day at the Davis Mountains. We moved into the Indian Lodge hotel on site, which is a really cool remodeled CCC building.
