The star: From the gospel of St. Matthew (2:9): “the star, which they had seen in the east, went on before them until it came and stood over the place where the Child was.”
The wisemen: From the gospel of St. Matthew (2:1): “Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold wise men from the East came to Jerusalem.”
From the gospel of St. Matthew (2:9a, 10-11): “When the wise men had heard the king, they went their way; and going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshipped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold, frankincense and myrrh.”
From the gospel of St. Luke (2:13-14): “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”
From the gospel of St Luke (2:8-9): “And in that region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear.”
From the book of PSALM (8: 8-9): “You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all SHEEP and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the sea. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!”
: “The celebration of the feast of the Nativity of Christ in the Orthodox Church is patterned after the celebration of the feast of the Lord’s Resurrection. A fast of forty days precedes the feast, with special preparatory days announcing the approaching birth of the Savior. “Jesus is the Son of God. He is our Savior. Christ is Born! Let’s glorify Him with the animals, the star, and all of creation. Let us rejoice, for He is our salvation, and let us sing to Him:”
The icon is almost complete
