This is just a point of interest. Looks like an upside-down moose skull on the bank of the creek. Earlier up the creek I saw a moose with her calf, which looked very, very young. Dark fur and probably only about three feet tall.
Mr. Beaver. I always find it remarkable how well animals naturally blend into their surroundings.
When I had first approached this section of the river, I heard the unmistakable slap on the water of a beaver tail. I had seen signs of them on the river bank, but wasn't surprised that this one saw me first. Note the fresh wood chips along the base of the tree, and the freshly-worn path down to the water.
After I heard the beaver, I was able to conveniently park my boat on a log sticking out of the river and wait. The beaver circled back around twice before it was comfortable to resume its work. Patience pays off though, and I was able to watch it munch for a while.
Floating down a creek by yourself often means shuttling back to your car on foot or on bike. I had locked my bike to a tree, and traded it out for the boat to get back to my car.
