Team Marine Plastic Bag Ban

Team Marine participated in the gathering at Santa Monica City Hall in January 2011 to urge the city council to ban plastic bags in Santa Monica, after delaying a vote on the issue for several years. The council unanimously agreed to ban plastic bags, a huge success not only for Team Marine, but for the environment and the diverse marine life off California's coast.

Summit 2010 Highlights

All current Roots & Shoots California group leaders and members aged 13 and older were invited to attend this year's Roots & Shoots California Youth Leadership Summit. Over one hundred youth and chaperones attended, developing and strengthening leadership skills over the course of the three-day, two-night event. Attendees participated in hikes, workshops, brainstorming sessions, group-building activities, and amazing marine-themed acitivties made possible by the Ocean Institute (www.ocean-institute.org)!

R&S 101: Teacher Training 2010

At the 3rd annual R&S teacher workshop with R&S California Program Manager Erin Viera, participants learned how to incorporate more service learning into their classroom or school while learning more about Roots & Shoots. The FREE training took place on Saturday, August 7, 2010, 9:30am-3:30pm at the Skirball Cultural Center, and included a light breakfast and lunch.
