Canadian Rockies 2010 - Mount Assiniboine Backpack
Backpacking trip from Sunshine Meadows in Banff National Park to Lake Og and Lake Magog in Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park. On day 1, we hiked to Lake Og via Citadel Pass and made camp on a day that gave us a sample of all 4 seasons (13 miles, 2000+ ft gain). On day 2, we hiked the rest of the way to Lake Magog (5 miles) and stayed at the huts. The clouds broke in the late afternoon and we spent a leisurely day at the lake. On day 3, we hiked to Nub Peak which provides an awesome view of the Assiniboine mastif, especially on this unusually clear blue-bird day (7 miles, 1830 ft gain). Then we hiked back to Lake Og and made camp (5 miles). On day 4, we returned to Sunshine Meadows via Citadel Pass on another beautiful day (13 miles, 2500-3000 ft gain). We ran into a bear too! This was absolutely my favorite backpacking trip I've done so far. :) (So far only photos from day 1-3 are here, more to come) (Total: 43 miles, 6850 ft gain)
