"Working with the shape of pieces of coal - coal from the mountains of coal that surrounded the mining town where I grew up in the north of England. Making the shape a little abstract, by xeroxing drawings of coal (lots of circles), enlarging them greatly, then printing them onto printmaking paper using the paper-litho transfer process (the xerox toner picks up the ink, the xerox itself becomes the litho plate). Combining large and small 'coal circles' on one print, and adding monoprint, too."
