Steam Driving Experience
When I was a lad, all small boys wanted to become engine drivers and on April 18th 2011 that dream can true for me thanks to a birthday gift from eldest son, Matthew. Knowing a bit, perhaps too much, about steam locomotives I did approach the day with some intrepidation. But by chance I was allocated Driver 4 slot on the programme, which meant I was first Guard, then Fireman, before taking over the Driver's seat. By then I'd got to know the line and the locomotive and felt perfectly at ease when it came to driving. It was a brilliant experience and thanks to all at the East Lancashire Railway, especially Driver Malcolm Frost ('Frosty') and Fireman John Bradshaw
