This is how to get along with nature. Build above it. This is the walkway from Makushla House (very nice little hotel house) and the owners house. No trimming sidewalk edges, no tree roots bursting through. No interference with migration.
Makushla House private residence of owners. Under this house is a 100,000 litre tank for collecting rainwater during the rainy season. All the gutters of the house feed into the tank. 100,000 litres will last a whole dry season.
Locals are always gardening in Kenya. It's very agricultural here.
I want this kind of view for my Vertical Village. Imagine this house was 20 stories tall. Walmart is the bottom floor. 2nd floor is gym, post office, Fedex, medical clinic. Floor 3 is community center, school and church. Floors 4-5 are office condos. 6-20 is residential. Their rent and association fees would support all the outreach work into nearby communities.
Kenyan sidewalk on east side of Nairobi.
Kariobangi, east side of Nairobi. It's very industrial here. Waste management companies would have plenty of business here. Google: Albina Ruiz Saludable
Kariobangi, east of Nairobi downtown.
Kickstart.org headquarters in Kariobangi, east of Nairobi. I had a great talk with John Kinaga of Kickstart.
This ad says it all about the Kickstart MoneyMaker Pump
One day soon VillagetheGame.com will have this sign posted.
Kickstart demonstration room. XAccess bike on the right. Sunflower oil press behind the bike. Adobe-brick press center. Oil filter back left. Kickstart pumps far left.

School kids headed home. All schools private and public mandate uniforms. On the way to Kapsabet, northwest of Nairobi.
Flea market on a Kapsabet Tuesday afternoon. I took this shot after a 5 hour bumpy bus ride from Nairobi to Kapsabet where Damon Davenport of Build the Village picked me up to give a tour.
The first church built by Build the Village. Damon Davenport has a background in commercial landscaping and I'm looking forward to seeing the follow up pics. This a little town called Jomine. Near Nandi Hills and Kapsabet.
Wider view of church in Jomin near Kapsabet, Kenya. The fence and barb wire are to keep cows from eating the landscaping. Lying on the foreground is steel rebar they use to build everything in Kenya.
These guys are getting paid about twice the average income to build the church and schools and the labor is still very low cost. Rural Kenya is full of beautiful landscapes.
Private academy in Nandi Hills. Started by British but now run by Kenyans. Kenyans really understand the importance of education for their kids and fork over the tuition to send them.
Main entrance to the local private school.
Same private school, students trail off to the cafeteria. The schools grounds are much more 'Spartan' than the main building.
3 and 4 year olds at the private school. These kids are full of energy, and treat Mezungu (white people) like celebrities ... or zoo animals depending on how much you like the attention. =)
They love when the camera flashes.
