Shekhawati Painted Havelis - 1. Fatehpur
Shekhawati region consists of Churu, Jhunjhunu and Sikar districts of Rajasthan State.Shekha, the rajput ruler once ruled this region. Hence the name 'Shekhawati' , the garden of Shekhawat. During 18th and 19th centuries, some of the enterprising traders and businessmen from Shekhawati region flourished and they started constructing large havelis as show of their richness. Prominent names among the successful businessmen were Birlas, Goenkas, Morarkas, Podars, Sarafs, Singhanias etc.
These havelis are typically in rectangular in shape having one or two stories, The havelis are protected by a huge wooden doors behind which is the first courtyard where the menfolks meets the visitors. A second wooden door from the first courtyard leads to the second courtyard which is a private place used by womenfolks. There are usually four small rooms on each sides of the inner courtyard used as a kitchen, drinking water room and store rooms.
