Heralding the arrival of the King & Queen.
Quick! Quick! They are coming!
The entrance of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella.
The 'Royals' declare the Market open.
The King opening the Market. (I believe the King is holding the key to Queen Isabella's chastity belt. The Queen is trying to get the key back because she has already had the lock changed! Note the medieval microphone on the Queen's head.)
On the left is Monica Lorente, the mayoress of Orihuela. The lady on the right, wearing a chain, is probably the honorary Queen of the Market .........I dunno!
The Ayuntamiento (Town Hall) of Orihuela.
Musicians! Obviously! Excellent music!
Some 'oddballs' mingling with the crowd.
One of the many, many bars. Prices were very reasonable. Everybody behind the bars and stalls were in costume.
Well MY lunch has arrived! Where's the bread!
Street entertainers. Some on mini stilts.
Guy with white shirt and big belly about to shoot the entertainers.
A dancing bear. (I know that this photo will probably raise the hackles of some readers. However the bear was in immaculate condition and did NOT have a ring through it nose.
Although Orihuela has many beautiful old buildings (and they are well worth visiting), these apartments are reminiscent of Kabul.
Two knights arguing about whose round it is!
OK! I'll pay!
The original 'Metal Mickey.'
Have at you, you varlet!
Orihuela Cathedral.
Entrance to the Ayuntamiento.
The Catholic Kings - King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella - mingling.
Arsenal Supporters Club awayday.
The lady with the brush was as 'mad as a hatter' and kept brushing people out of the way!
The drums!
Beautiful colours. Note the two basketball players in the background.
What incredible costumes and makeup!
Here's lookin' at you, Kid with the mayoress in the background.
