Heat test successful. At 275°C all parts are functional.
10.04.2009 full test. Safety valve was leaking.
Almost successful run, seal exploded, some damage to aerogel.

Added cooling fan.
20mm steel lid has deformed too much and cannot hold sealant any more. Process postponed until new, thicker lid is made.

my dream is to build a mile size stratosphere cruiser out of aerogel. the parts will be 3D printed and stress focus points reinforced with fibers and metals. filled with ionized helium, it floats like a bubble on the air ocean. have you traveled by plane? little space? too tight packed folks? forget it now - on the cruiser you can walk free to bar or restaurant, cinema or pool. save money - it uses no fuel - at altitude 10-15 km wind speed is constant 300 km/h one direction. it is on the orbit, never lands - linking airlines go up and down, it has own airport on board. it has near-infrared observatory otherwise impossible on ground.
