Absolutely inspiring. I loved this book a whole lot.
I loved this book! I usually have a hard time with non-fiction, but Andrew Robinson is such a good writer, he kept my attention even through the languages I wasn't interest in.
I loved NEED, so of course I read the sequel. So good! And Carrie Jones is just the sweetest person ever. Seriously.
Such an interesting story! Fascinating mode of storytelling. Will stay with me a long time.
Eh, okay. Not my favorite. Sorry, Lisa. I know I've never met you, but I still feel bad. It just didn't work for me and didn't feel realistic. And I'm not talking about the dreaming part, I'm talking about the real life stuff.
I absolutely LOVED this book. the heroine wasn't a whiny baby. Yay! She whined, but she wasn't a baby. And she only whined when most appropriate. I am so excited for Jackson Pearce's book SISTERS RED to come out. You should read her books!! I insist.
My first graphic novel ever!! I didn't like it quite as much as the 'original,' but that's just because I'm an English major like that. Gareth Hinds does a masterful job though, and is careful to keep the essence of the original. Quite impressive, if I do say so myself. Which I do.
I enjoyed it :) (See Beowulf)
I wasn't sure what I would think about this book at first, but I really enjoyed it. The characters were REAL. I believed them. I believed that if I stuck my head out my door I would see them living, breathing, walking, talking.
Cute. However, the fact that Santa Claus almost ATE them was just a tad disturbing.
I love this book! A re-telling of Hansel and Gretel. He better write a sequel, that's all I can say.
Such a Cute Book!
I loved this book. Such a quirky family, such a good story.
Very cute. I think I read this before and love it. Or maybe I had a dream about it. Or maybe my brother told a story that reminded me of this. Either way: Ed Young is a super good storyteller.
I haven't decided what I think about this yet, but I would probably read more by Ehrenhaft.
Very cute story. :)
Ed Young is a super talented storyteller. Just love his books.
Adorable! I loved this book so much. Not only were the stories the cutest things, the layout and fonts were done with phenomenal creativity. Love it.
This one was a little bit confusing for me at first, but once I got to the end it all made sense, and I thought it made a good point.
Interesting take on the Red Riding Hood tale.
Cute tale about adoption.
I've read a story similar to this before, but Ed Young has a very unique way of telling stories, so I still enjoyed it.
I love these books! Patricia C. Wrede creates riveting characters, amazing world... Ah! Amazing.
I'm a fan of Sophocles so far, ever since reading Antigone in highschool. I don't know what it is. I'm not sure that I liked these translators though, no offense to them.
Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean are just a little creepy, I have to admit. But who doesn't like a little creepy every once in awhile?
Very cute story. I'm a big fan of fairy tales.
Very cute. The most ridiculous puns ever.
This was most definitely a fun read. Glad I randomly picked it off of the shelf.
I stumbled upon these (again) in the library. I love the snarky wit in these books. Highly entertaining, believe me.
I like how Joe's sister was in this one.
I wasn't expecting to like this book as much as I did. I picked it up in Target and something about the writing just clicked with me. I'm interested to see where the sequel goes with the story.
I usually don't like books in this format, but I enjoyed this one. It reminded me of Everything is Fine, by Ann Dee Ellis.
Very Cute :)
Who doesn't love reading another version of Cinderella?
Very fascinating, that there were Cinderlads instead of Cinderellas.
I lurve Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith
This made my head hurt. 0_+
There were some good moments, but overall I was not impressed by the writing.
I truly enjoyed this book. I love books on different realities.
Love, love, love. If you have not had a chance to read this book you totally should.
This was seriously one of the most amazing children books I have ever read. With embossed pictures and braille... Just fantastic.
I loved this book! Laughed so hard. A little bit reminiscent of Lemony Snickett, but I'm not sure which one came first.
Another good Ulysses S. Moore story.
Very enjoyable. I hadn't even thought of the Greek gods being in their father's stomach. Ew. Gross.
I really enjoyed this book! This was a magical read.
I truly enjoyed this book. Man, I love IR, middle grade, whatever you call it. Loved Emmy, loved the rat. At first I was concerned because I don't usually like books with animals, but this was fantastic. Definitely something I would recommend.
Very fun. I love all Spiderwick books.
This book was charming. I thought the idea was fantastic, the characters were lovable. It had me laughing quite a few times. A wonderful middle grade book.
This was such a good book. :)
Have to agree with the sis on this one. Def reminds me of our family times.
I actually liked this book. It had good character development and the MC was not whiny or too angsty. Memorable, fresh, and fun.
I liked the idea behind this book, but it simply wasn't long enough for me. I wanted more, and was disappointed. Not that I was expecting a JK Rowling length or anything, just something a little bit more detailed. I was really getting into the story, invested and everything, and then it was over.
Yup. Definitely enjoy MT Anderson. I prolly liked Whales on Stilts better, but I still laughed out loud. Will def be checking out other books written by him.
Suzanne Collins knows how to tell a good story. Lovely tale, keeps you hooked in, love the characters, just a fascinating idea fully formed.
I have a hard time reading non-fiction, but I actually finished this one! Briggs keeps it real, short, and simple. I would recommend it to pretty much everyone. definitely made me think about my own life.
Another good book by Suzanne Collins. I am getting pretty worried about Gregor, and it's only the second book. 0_0
I actually read the Dover Thrift Edition, but could find no pic for it. I love Shakespeare! I knew nothing of this play before, so it was quite refreshing to be able to read it.
I love the pictures. I want to find more books with these type of illustrations. :)
Very cute. I love the artwork especially.
Very cute. The step-mother was predictable, but other than that I loved the characters.
Love, love, love. An urban fantasy that doesn't deal with vampires, has time travel, bends in reality. What more could I ask for? Oh yeah. It has Shakespeare stuff in it too. Yup. This book is amazing.
A mix between Alice in Wonderland and Hansel and Gretel. Absolutely fabulous. I love the character's voice. Just fantastic
I picked up this book because Brett Helquist did the cover art. I was not disappointed. A wacky tale, believable even in its unbelievability. Definitely recommended to anybody.
My friend could only say it was, "Weird, weird, weird." I loved it. Definitely not an easy read, but worth it. Bizarre, pushing at the imagination, and such unique characters. I'm glad I read it, and will probably read it again, which doesn't often happen.
I thought this was the first one, but apparently it wasn't. I just read a few pages, curious. Well, then a few hours later I had read the entire thing. I'm curious to read the first one. Even being a story for young readers, I still found it enjoyable.
Although the few instances of bad language had me shaking my head (it wasn't necessary and isn't creative) I still enjoyed this book. Pearce has some wonderful turns of phrases, and just a lovely way of writing. I thought the characters were portrayed realistically. And even though I knew the "twist" ending (I kept shouting at Rosie and Scarlett) it never became too obnoxious.
Thought it was good. Loved the voice, the use of puns. A very enjoyable middle grade book.
I liked the overall idea of the book, but it wasn't enough for me. The ending was lame and there wasn't the tension (I thought) that it called for.
Ohmygoodness. I started this in the bookstore just to see if the first paragraph was interesting. I finished the whole entire thing. And cried. Right in the middle of Borders. An emotional ride I think most everyone needs to take at some point.
*sigh* Sophocles. I have to say, Antigone makes SO much more sense, having now read the entire three plays back to back. And I love Sophocles, and ancient plays like this. Just fantastic. Plus, I thought it was a pretty decent translation.
I was a little bit annoyed with the mother (I know, I know, it was done like an inside joke, but still) but overall I really enjoyed it. It reminded me a little bit of the Poltergoose story I read recently. I would search out the second one, for I did enjoy it. A quick read.
I love, love, love the voice and the characters. I was, however, annoyed with the fact that her father was gay. Why is Everyone gay in books nowadays? I'm just getting tired of it. Other than that, I absolutely Loved this book.
I wouldn't jump over joy for this book, but I thought it was good.
It was good. Not fantastic, but good. I hate saying that, because for me that would be worse than an insult... But that's what I thought. And I have a weird like of books anyhow, so... I don't know.
Very, very weird. Definitely interesting. But weird. In a good way.
Another slightly weird, very interesting book. I will be looking up more books by Matt Faulkner.
I loved the pictures. Drool-worthy.
Shaun Tan is AMAZING! He tells a story entirely through (magnificent) pictures, conveying stories of such intense emotion. He is a master, I tell you. Go read it now.
Very cute. Plus, I loved the artwork.
Melissa Marr is fantastic and more people should read her books. I can't gush enough. I love the vocabulary words she pulls out, ones I didn't even know existed. Her world is believable, her characters are flawed perfectly. Love, love, love.
I was expecting this book to disappoint me. It didn't. I was very glad I read this novel. Very good.
Other than the normal complaints I have of these kinds of books (If you're going to believe in Evolution, that's your choice, but don't use the words 'Evolution' and 'created' in conjunction with each other.) Over all a nice book, with a lot of quotes I agreed with.
One of the few Devotionals I've been able to finish. I truly enjoyed it, and found it extremely helpful to my life. Kast is real-to-life without being boring or preachy. I'm glad I have another one of his books to keep being encouraged.
This was good - though it shows my naiveté, because I didn't realize what tricks stood for. There were some moments I was a little bit uncomfortable, and I wouldn't recommend this to younger ages, but it was still a powerful read.
Haha. This was very cute. I picked it up at the Strand for a friend, and ended up reading it myself.
Very cute. A very fest read, but it was enjoyable. I laughed at the play on words, especially in the names. High-larious.
I very much enjoyed this story. So well written, I didn't even realize there was one that came before it. Made me laugh. Definitely want more.
Despite the language (which I'm not a fan of) I really loved this book. It was dark and lovely, and completely believable. Plus, I loved the main girl, Tate, and I loved that the MC was a male.
Very enjoyable. I was reading this out loud while shopping at Macy's with a friend. def got some weird looks. Definitely worth it.
I liked this book a lot, and am looking forward to the sequel. Yay!
I thought this book looked stupid. I picked it up to read the first paragraph to prove I would hate it. And then I couldn't put it down. Absolutely fantastic. So intriguing. The plot blew my mind. And I loved how it sometimes used second person without looking ridiculous. Just a wonderful book. Please read it.
This book was amazing! I got it for my birthday from the sis and read it like in two days. Jorge Luis Borges is a genius. Plus, it helped me figure out a story idea I've been mulling on for ages. Go Borges!
Absolutely devastating. In a good way. It leaves me speechless.
After reading Mockingjay I finished this because I needed more Suzanne Collins... It was good. In her regular brutal and honest style.
I really loved the beginning and the end. There was a large portion of the middle that dragged a little bit, because she kept using cliches and over-used phrases, but over all I enjoyed it and would read the sequel.
I really enjoyed this book. Good characters, well-written. The only negative thing I would say about it is: I am officially hating prologues now. This prologues was not as well-written, and probably wasn't needed either. But I loved it enough to forget that little detail.
I grabbed this book and had to read it because of the formatting. Turned out to be a lovely little book and a very good read. I'm glad I picked it up.
Probably one of the first books (other than the Bible) that I have re-read. I love this book. The way Beagle describes things is magical, and the story is along the lines of breath-taking. Plus, I love Schmendrick. The characters are alive and completely believable. Love it.
I was afraid to read this after all of the hype, but I most definitely enjoyed it. Evie is hilarious and I love her. The plot never dragged, the characters were never unbelievable. And what can I say, I love Reth. I know I'm not supposed to... But I do. A very good book worth the hype.
After the whole fairy-tell re-do someone mentioned something about Little Red, so when I saw this book I was curious. A bit on the feminist side for me, and a little heavy on the sex-side which I wasn't really thrilled about. But over-all it was well-written and kept my attention all the way through. A very informative read.
Heard if this from Mia Hayson and TH Mafi. Glad I read it. :)
Over-all I enjoyed it, but I have to admit 1) the colored font was hard to read- my eyes did not approve 2) I like Sam, but I don't like reading from his perspective. Period. It makes him weak and unlikable 3) His girlfriend became a whiny baby until the last bit 4) I loved Isabel and Cole. They were portrayed nicely. 5) I forced myself to read this book. Never good. But over-all, I was okay with it. Just not entirely impressed.
I read this after the hub-bub and I have to say I am stunned. Why on earth would anyone want to ban this? It's not graphic, while still being real. Beautifully written... I just don't understand. The world needs books like this, giving a voice to those that don't always have one.
Although at times inappropriate, Wagstrom writes such a hilarious and witty story, that I found myself chortling chortlingly. Plus the extra story contained in the book, Rainbow Hair, was very well written. She just has a way with words. Quite creative.
Very cute :) Have I mentioned? I love Suzanne Collins. And there wasn't even death in this one ;)
Good story - I just wish that Dee's phone messages could've been left out of it- It was no longer Dee's story, and I didn't need her to understand the story- James and Nuala were strong enough to carry their story on their own, since it was Their story, not Dee's. And still kinda' annoyed about the language. *sigh*
I loved the illustrations - just beautiful :)
Cute. Very calming story.
Very nice. I enjoyed this very much. The illustrations were adorable, the same as the story.
I got to meet her at Polaris, so I read this. So good! A very quick read, good characters, very excited to read the second one.
I met her at BEA. I just had to after reading the logline about the Unicorn Phenomenon. Really good. Mythology well-formed... Just a good story. Glad to have the sequel. The signed sequel. *swoon*
I liked this book. Actually made me like cats ;)
Yay! The second one :) I like these.
A disturbing tale without a happy ending. Definitely for a more mature audience. But brilliantly told. I still can't believe Grimsley told an entire story in second person. It was a very brutal tale.
I met Rowen at Polaris when the sis and I went to a book reading, and we got a free book! This one was mine. I enjoyed it :) Good story, and I definitely snortled at times.
I do like Armstrong's stories. Well told, and complex characters.
Another author I "met" at Polaris. Despite the random two chapters of unnecessary back story (I thought it was agreed that ugly exposition was to be banned from books?) I liked this story a lot. It took a bit for the two characters to have their own voices. The second half of the story was definitely better. I would read more.
I really liked this retelling of Persephone. At first I wasn't sure if it was going to be stupid or not, but I thought it used bits of Greek myth well and was well thought out.
I really, really liked this book. :) Plus, I loved Pickering's drawings. Araminta sounds exactly like a child her age would sound. A bit rambly, but very cute.
I didn't think I would like this, but it was actually done well. Believable characters and story. Magical.
Nicely written, good characters. I would read more.
I Love JT Petty. This was just as good as the second one. I hope he writes a fourth one, because I will always wonder what happens next. Unless he writes another one. Then I won't wonder anymore. Ahem.
I finished it! Good stuff. He is inappropriate at times, but what can you expect from the Greeks? He brings up a lot of questions about women and their place in the world. I'm surprised I haven't heard more from feminists on him. Definitely a good read. I enjoyed it immensely.
A little more rough than the second two, which I was impressed at. Sometimes the author gets worse with each succeeding book, but JT Petty just gets better. I'm very excited to read the Squampkin Patch now.
Oh my bananas I love JT Petty. He is hilarious, a good writer, and understands pacing. I think it comes from him working in the movie industry or whatever. I seriously think more people need to read his stuff!
Took me a little while to get into it, but it picked up nicely once more characters were involved. Loved the concept and thought Theo had a unique voice. Not a dime a dozen story. Loved Sticky Will :)
I really enjoyed this book alot. In my mind I associate it with the Sky is Everywhere, only appropriate for middle graders. I loved the way it was written and the voice was very alive. I recommend it.
Definitely a good resource. Some of it was a little bit repetitive, because it was written to be able to be used as a reference and not necessarily read right through. Well written and understandable. I learned a good amount from reading this.
I loved this. The characters were superb. Well written. Just well done. I Loved the idea of her being stuck in the Middle Ages. Even though I guessed the big secret of who the Black Knight was, it was so well written and intriguing, I didn't care. Very nicely done.
The beginning hooked me, and I was enthralled... Until the last bit. I don't know what it was, but I felt like I had already read this story before. Not to say it wasn't original, because I know that's a killer thing to say, but something in the story lost my interest, which was awful since I loved the beginning so, so much. Still, Jori and Newt, and even Derek, were well-drawn and I grew to care about them, even if the story felt lacking to me.
I liked this story. I love the little Gremlin. It makes me happy. :) Plus, it had a basilisk, so... definitely cool points for that.
Well written. Loved the bit of French mixed in with the names and such, since I think it came from a French tale, originally. Though I'm not sure. Still, I thought it was very well told, intriguing. Different. A nice kind of different. A sense of air to it that was refreshing.
Again, a little bit hard to get into at first, but once it starts going I just absolutely love it. Am already working on getting the third one.
Absolutely adored this book. Goes under my list with Snickett, Petty, and the like. I was laughing so hard, I was disturbing my mum and sister. I highly, highly recommending this lovely book. Plus, the man is British. Wonderful British authors.
I LOVE Lane Smith's illustrations. I picked it up because of him and found a delightful story. I especially liked the multiple endings. Thought it very cute.
Wonderful story book. Great pictures. Dormer must have realized how much fun it is to say the word 'Sock' before he wrote this. Either that or I am writing this Way Too Late at Night.
I will admit, this one was a little bit creepy. But I still love Lane Smith's artwork.
Very cute. Love the illustrations and the repetitive rhythm to the story.
Again, a delightful little tale. I think I like this one better than the first.
Very nice. I especially liked the explanation at the end. Dr Seuss was an interesting character.
Love it. Plus, I want her pants.
Cute. A little bit odd, but cute.
Words cannot express how much I loved this book. An absolutely impossible tale, but still somehow believable. Loved the little kite-flying boy. So much fun.
Ohmygoodness... I loved this. I think I even teared up a little bit. Quite a bit different from the Pendragon series, but DJ MacHale definitely knows how to tell a good story.
Yes, it's slightly inappropriate and yes, I highly enjoyed it.
Liked it very much. Go Wyvern's! I like how the story is Developing. Very nice.
Over-All I liked it. Some stories I enjoyed better than others. I particularly liked Peterfreund's and Ryan's. I will probably read Scott Westerfield and Maureen Johnson now. And if you're wondering which team I picked... Neither. I'm still Team Spake, baby.
