Left to right: Bucket stave (cedar), Spoon (cast pewter), thimble for a gun barrel (brass), S hook (iron), ring (silver)
We're pulling this iron ring out of the fire and moving it to the wheel that it goes around. That fire was hot...I burned my wrist a little.
That's me at the forge, pulling the bellows to make the fire hotter. I made a nice S hook - if only I had an open fireplace and some nice iron pots...
Soldering, colonial style. Use a blowpipe to blow the flame from the oil lamp onto the ring, melt the solder, and viola! Ring!
Molten pewter, the mold is sitting in the background. We made spoons! The worst part was filing off all the sharp edges, that takes some skill.
