Tibet Site Seminar - Art - Drolma Lhakang

likely foundation period clay sculptures in the ground floor righthand (Buddhas of the three times?)chapel; upstairs on a pillar was this unusual contemporary depiction of Milarepa. I'd welcome any information about it!

Inside Out

Inside Out, April 20-22, 2007. A special exhibition of the Gedun Choephel Arists' Guild, curated by Leigh Sangster and members of the gallery. Several featured artists will be participating in LHASA: New Works from Tibet at Red Gate Gallery/798, curated by Tony Scott and Leigh Sangster (May 26-June 18). Contemporary Art from Lhasa

These images are provided for friends to see the variety of arts and artists i am working with. Please do not reproduce or use them in any way; they are subject to photographer and artists copyrights and gallery/collector permissions which are not fully indicated here! Please contact me with any questions, comments, or requests. Most of the artists here are members of the Gendun Choephel Artists Guild, and/or are in Art School faculty at Tibet Univesity. Most of these works were painted in 2005 or 2006. A series in the middle here are Guild member's (both Chinese and Tibetan) reflections on the train which arrived in Lhasa July 1, 2006. Ice Buddha Installation, Kyi Chu River

Gade, a Lhasa artist, and a group of artist friends gathered one sunny afternoon for an experiment: create an art project of photographing (with Jason) the melting of an ice sculpture. The sculpture is a traditional Buddha Shakyamuni statue, frozen from water collected from the Kyi Chu River in Lhasa. The principal artist, Gade, states that it is like the cycle of life - the water comes from and returns to the same source.

Lama Tsong Khapa Barkhor 06

photos taken on dec 14 & 15 of holiday commemorating Lama Tsong Khapa and a disciple on the anniversary of their deaths. They founded major monastic institutions and philosophic traditions in Tibet, and the flame symbolizes the teacher's illuminating wisdom in the darkness of ignorance.
