Gutting the pumpkin.
Gutting the pumpkin...some more.
This is the "cap" that was cut out of the pumpkin.
Some pumpkin seeds where removed. They would be baked, then cut and painted to make Tie Fighters.
How a seed becomes a Tie Fighter: 1) Cut both ends of the seed. 2) Glue two on the side of a bead 3) Paint black
Tie Fighter. It's two pumpkin seeds glued to a bead.
Closer shot of "Tie Fighter".
The Millennium Falcon made out of pumpkin seeds.
"Millennium Falcon" painted.
The pumpkin, gutted, ready for paint.
Waiting for the paint to dry.
The Team
The team..again =)
The designed was first traced on the pumpkin.
argh! get it off me!
Tie Fighters EVERYWHERE! We made more than we needed in case some broke (which they did).
We <3 Google images.
A dremel was the quickest way to carve deep into the pumpkin.
Product placement!
After we carved we did a second layer of paint. The trenches got covered but that was easily fixed.
LEDs
We used fiber optic cable for the lights.
The white lights were "powered" by this high intensity flash light.
5 ft fiber optic cable. Inside it there were about 27 strands so we had about 135ft of cable at our disposal.
All the strands inside the tube being lit by the flashlight.
Here you can clearly see the strands inside the tube.
Adding the LED lights to the pumpkin.
We used a combination of green LEDs for the cannon and white light for the rest of the pumpkin.
Tie fighters after paint. It was easier to place them all on a cable than to paint them individually.
Boy, that guy knows some maneuvers!
We attached the fighters and the Falcon using cables.
Tie Fighters in formation.
Finished pumpkin in the light.
