Orthodox present at the ordination of 3 new Roman Catholic bishops - Brussels, April 3, 2011. The orthodox representatives were: Metropolitan Panteleimon of Belgium and his assistant bishop, Mgr Athenagoras of Sinope; Archbishop Simon (Moscow Patriarchate) and Metropolitan Athanasios of Axaïa (Director of Office Church of Greece to EU). In the presence of some 2,000 faithful, Belgium’s bishops’ conference gained three new members yesterday. Msgr. Leon Lemmens, Msgr. Jean Kockerols and Msgr. Jean-Luc Hudsyn were consecrated to be successors to the apostles and lead the three vicariates of the Archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels.
Archbishop Léonard was, obviously, the principal consecrator and he was aided by Cardinal Danneels, his predecessor in Brussels and Archbishop Giaconto Bercolo, the Apostolic Nuncio. In his homily, linked below, Msgr. Léonard emphasised the difference between the eyes of man and the eyes of God, drawing from the first reading of the fourth Suday of Lent.
